Default Blasphemous Question. Did Skins win Super Bowls "despite Joe Gibbs?"

The more I look at the offense and its problems, I seem to remember rightly or wrongly, me and my family always used to complain about Joe Gibbs and his offense. I remember in 1991 we used to complain that we played to many close games at the end of the season and that the skins started to get conservative especially in the first lose to Dallas that year. Is it possible that his "staff" had a bigger role in his success and maybe they were the ones who made the offense open up when it did. Also, I remember year after year we would go into a game against a lesser opponent and they would somehow step up and play their best game against us. Does anyone remember having these same complaints about them back then.

gibbs has always been conservative and nervous.

the thing is his teams of that past executed. something our offense is struggling at.

our offense conservative or not will be good once the players executed. and if that startegy got them 3 trophies i am all for it.

I didn't even read this, it's much too early for damn revisionist history. Stop killing our heroes! Seriously, take a look at any newer books on heroic figures, they all basically say "great man, American hero, but this is why he was a jerk."

There's no doubt Gibbs was a great coach in his time in a league that was different, where limited free agency and no salary cap allowed for more continuity. Joe did have different QBs and different RBs, but three of the main Hogs (Jake, Bostic, Grimm) were here the whole time, Art Monk stayed the whole time, and Clark and Sanders were here from the mid-80s on.

Today......not so sure. I think the expectations were a bit much when he returned. Also, is five years too little to determine whether Gibbs II is a success? What makes it even more difficult to answer is Gibbs' decision to hire Saunders as OC after only being back for two years. Sometimes you wonder exactly what Joe's role is anymore.

He said "despite", I don't usually nit-pick about these things but there's a big meaning difference.

The 1991 team was invincible. We crushed teams all season long. There was no stopping us that year and we obliterated the AFC champion in the Super Bowl that year.

If you look at the 1991 results, very few games were close games. They opened up that season without an opposing offense scoring a TD for 5 straight weeks.

    This question isn't worth answering

Three Super Bowls with three different QB's, only one HOF player.....

This is not blasphemous, just ridiculous.

Before Gibbs II, we lost close games. We didn't make it to playoffs. Free agents came to Washington to get "paid." Since Gibbs arrival, we removed those players. We made it to the playoffs. We are beginning to win close games. We see improvement in discipline. We see team unity, players willing to fight through injuries.

Not many things in life are more obvious than Gibbs' imprint on this team.

The only big issue in Gibbs II's reign, has been the introduction of Al Saunder's offense, which set Skins back 2 years. Al Saunders system is great, but the problem is that it takes time for a team to assimilate it.

We are going through growing pains, but we will surely get there.

Under Norv, we lost so many close game it was pathetic. Under Marty we lacked discipline. Under Spurrier the team played on a college level. Under Gibbs we have stability again.

To be honest, this is a terrible question.
“Hey, about an hour ago, all right, their [defensive] coordinator [Juan Castillo] told us, told [offensive line coach Chris] Foerster, that [if] the Giants would have lost last week, they were in the playoffs,” Kyle Shanahan said. “He didn’t mention that they had to beat us today. **** him, **** these guys. In 2012 the Redskins are gonna be the NFC East champions, and that starts right ****ing today.”
