Now THAT needs to be a you tube clip...

Remember our punter on the Thanksgiving game against dallas? When his nose was broken and basicly turned upside down. I remember we were all looking at the TV and saying "His noose looks strange...hmm....OH MY GOD!"

The old NFL Today opening. Not only the music but the Brent Musberger intro going from stadium to stadium.

I still get chills remembering "You are looking live at Robert F Kennedy Memorial Stadium in the Nation's Capital where today the Washington Redskins take on.................."

Dexter Manley wearing a mohawk and calling himself "Mr. D" as an homage to Mr. T during the 1983 season.

The Redskins Report originally started as Joe Theismann's Redskins report on Ch.4 during the 1983 season. I still remember that damn jingle

"The Hogs, The Smurfs, The Fun Bunch, The works. What makes the Redskins go, ask Joe. Joe Theismann's Redskins report.....with George Michael"

The Hogs became so famous that they even had a McDonald's commercial in 83. They were wearing sweatsuits and jogging/dancing down a street in DC singing

"I've got a taste for McDonald's................" I forgot the rest of the jingle but that commercial is a holy grail for me. I really would love to find a copy of that sucker.

A great little piece of facts about Billy Kilmer...the first Skins QB I watched as a young kid..

In 1960, he led the nation in total offense at UCLA and was a first round pick of the 49ers, who made him the starting QB in their innovative shotgun offense. After breaking his leg in 1962, he became John Brodie’s backup until he earned a starting job with the expansion New Orleans Saints, which he held until the arrival of Archie Manning. He was noted for his on-field leadership, who went on to alternate with Sonny Jurgenson and later Joe Theisman as the Redskins’ starting QB until his retirement after the 1978 season.
Amazingly enough, he was a stud HB, first team All American and was inducted into the College Football HOF. After seeing some of his Redskins highlight clips, who'd have thought it? He's also my all time favorite Redskin, and I still wear my Kilmer jersey from time to time.

Gibbs I's first victory was against the Bears in Soldier Field 24-7 when Vince Evans was the Bears QB. In 16 Seasons Dave Butz had 2 INTs and one was in this game. Riggins had 126 yards - his first 100 yarder with Gibbs after sitting out the year before.

Sonny not only played football for Duke
he was actually a basketball player. He was good enough to be selected as All-Southern Conference in basketball.

The first Redskin running back to rush for 1,000 yds 3 years in a row was Stephan Davis (this is a good bar bet because it seems not right - but it is)

Larry Brown made the Pro Bowl in 1969, 1970, 1971, and 1972. The most he earned as a professional football player was $125,000 a year which was part of a contract that included incentive clauses.

My first ever game was at RFK in the 1981-82 season (week 2, I believe) against the 49ers, who most on here will recall went on to a 13-3 record and won the Super Bowl (XVI) over the Bengals, 26-21. I remember my Dad telling me that "this should be an easy win for the Skins, the niners have been the league doormat for years......."

We lost 35-14 that day. the two Redskins TD's were:

    1. A 3yd Sweep by Joe Washington.
    2. A 50+ yard interception return down the sideline by none other than Neil Olkewicz.

We started that season 0-5, and ended it with great momentum, finishing 8-8.

I remember (sort of ) reading about Kilmer? I think, getting bailed out of jail for a DUI before a game on a Sunday morning.
    A young spring-tender girl
    combed her joyous hair
'You are very ugly' said the mirror.
    But,
    on her lips hung
    a smile of dove-secret loveliness,
for only that morning had not
    the blind boy said,
    'You are beautiful'?

Wow...that brought back memories, especially of the great 1983 season. I remember thinking that it was bad luck for the Skins to play on any other network.

Most of years, he had an affinity for an old beat up 80's Volkswagen Bug.... rest of the team used to make fun of him for it...

Found out recently, that he still has it....

Jimmy the Greek picked us to lose every single game that year. so he was essentially 2-14 in regards to us.

Ugh!!! I'd forgotten that, but as soon as I read your post the image popped back in my mind. That was almost as stomach-turning as the Joey-LT moment.

Yeah, he had a horrible car accident that nearly left him paralyzed, and he had to bust his arse to be able to play again. It changed him from being a Vince Young type of QB to a Bledsoe just stand in the pocket kind of guy.

Someone once joked Kilmer still threw an option pass - because you had the option of catching either end of it (a reference to the fact that he couldn't throw a tight spiral to save his life).

We used to call him "wobble with the wind" Kilmer.

Late in the 3rd, it was 38-13 when the skins came storming back behind....Trent Green. Closed the game to 38 to 35. Cards then scored again, skins wasted no time to close the game once again to 45 to 42 with 2 mins left. Onside kick failed, but the skins STILL got the ball back with about a min left - But couldn't get in FG range.....

So remind me again...why did we let Trent Green go?
