According to that website the US was one of the signatories.

My post may have been too vague. As this article shows http://www.newsmax.com/archives/arti...9/164418.shtml
only Romanias legislature has ratified it. Our own Senate voted 95-0 against it.

BUt I am curious, did you mean to state that Bush "said he was in favor of it (a campaign promise)" Because, your links seem to show he was always against it.

Now what I have seen is the US (bipartisan) state they would be in favor of it if EVERY country was asked to be held to same standards that they were demanding of the US.

    Exclamation

"As far as the W is concerned I have searched thouroughly for documentation about his signing the treaty and it does not exist. If fact he had always pledged to take us off the list."

meaning Bush said he WOULD NOT sign it. he made other pledges about reducing emmisions. not Kyoto related.

the article you linked to was from Mar, 2001... a bit out of date. The United Nations Framework Conventionon Climate Change Website was updated a few weeks ago.

"The list below contains the latest information concerning dates of signature and ratification received from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as Depository of the Kyoto Protocol. The dates in the column entitled "date of ratification" are those of the receipt of the instrument of ratification (R), acceptance (At), approval (Ap) or accession (Ac)."

you need Adobe Acrobat Reader for this link

My only guess as to why the US is asked to do more to stop the emmisions is because we pollute on such a greater scale. Therefore we are asked to do more to stop it.

With great power comes great responsibility.

SO he kept his campaign promise.

It would seem that any nation that ratified it after the US voted 95-0 (lots of Dems in there) not to do so, realized that it was a dead issue and used it as a chance to poke a stick at us.

When we said no, only Romania had said yes. So we werent the "only" nation to do so.

I will refute your claims we pollute more tomorrow.

    Good debate though.

Here is an article relating to recent bombings in Venezuela that also provides information on our efforts to end this problem there.

Two things: it would appear that President Chavez, who is an anti-American socialist, has thwarted our efforts by refusing to cooperate; and the strikes that affected the oil industry in Venezuela ended as of the first week of February. It is other strikes that are ongoing.

Seriously, we don't get a huge percentage of our oil from Iraq anyway, and I suspect much of our economic fears about the war stem from a fear of rising energy prices. If we could mediate a workable solution there, wouldn't it significantly reduce the potential costs of going to war in Iraq?

Anyway, I just bring this up becuase it doesn't seem to get much press lately, and it would seem to be where Bush should be spending some of his energy.
