This year it is at 1:08 am Eastern time on the 22nd. I figured we talk about it enough that it merits its own thread.

As one of the people who actually celebrates Solstice as my main Winter Holiday; thank you, Burgold.
A Blessed Solstice to everyone
Do you guys celebrate summer solstice as well?
It is summer solstice down here, so yes!Originally Posted by portisizzle

Meh. Whatever you want to celebrate is cool with me. Christmas, solstice. Whatever. It's all good.
Maybe this is the wrong thread, but check out this holiday candle holder I found at Wal-Mart this morning. I'm giving it to my mom for Christmas. Funny thing is, it was 50% off even though Christmas hasn't even happened yet.
Anyway, happy solstice y'all.![]()

(Burg, I hope you and my other Jewish friends here see the humor in this post. If not, just say the word and I'll happily take it down. I think you'll "get it" though.)![]()

You're welcome. I don't know enough about how to celebrate the Solstice to know if I should offer you a wish for peace, happiness, or frivolity, but I hope that you find what you need as the days go forward.Originally Posted by Mass_SkinsFan

I believe my job as a parent is to give my kids all the blocks they need to build a life in which they can attempt to reach everything they strive for and see anything they can imagine. In a world where everybody finds it easier to destroy than build, I wish for my kids to experience the joy of seeing something for the first time and the love of creating something new.

I was hoping so. Hopefully everyone else will take it as it was intended too.Originally Posted by Burgold

Historically, Jews have been pretty good at laughing at themselves. Heck, look at the catskill comedians (Milton Berle, Mel Brooks, etc.) they basically all made their living on self deprecation and then Don Rickles and Chris Rock (both Jewish) had to ruin it all.
I think the ability to laugh at oneself and with others is sometimes sorely missing. Too many people are too worried are worried about their rep. And while I'm worried about Congress too, my House representative isn't the first guy I think about when I hear a joke.
Here comes the Sun, Happy Solstice all
