Alright folks, I hate to break up the chatter about defenses on IR, but I have another trade to announce.

While I'm here (since this is the most active I've been in months) I must say that having all players on the rosters, and not having to search the roster threads during pickups, is much preferred.

I think the future of my team looks bright. I have two young QBs in Cutler and Schaub. I've got some good young RBs in Stewart, Lynch, Wells, and Medenhall. And I have 2 really good WRs in Jennings and Wayne. I just need to bring in some young WRs and I think my team will be set.

You don't think they'll do much? Mendenhall is already taking over in Pittsburgh and Wells keeps seeing more action every week in Arizona. I think they have alot of potential.

I see both sides of this arguement. If every other position is allowed to be placed on IR, why can't a defensive team?

But I also see the other side that because they aren't a player, they can't be on IR.

I'm torn on this one. It would be weird to see a defense on IR, but it is a roster spot and all other roster spots can be placed on IR.

they arent a player. the logic behind IR is you put a player there cuz he cant play on sunday. a D/ST always plays on sunday. a while team isnt going to not play sunday cuz that would be a forfeit and when is that gonna happen?

youll just choose not to play a d/st cuz they suck, not cuz they wont be available. so thats my reasons for being against it.

but the problem is that we have people on ir that do play every sunday. it would be different if only hurt players were allowed on ir, but since players that are perfectly healthy can be on ir, why can't a defense?

i don't see why anyone would want to use an ir slot on a defense, but i'm not going to make a big deal if they do.

To me this sounds like everything goes. But I dunno what the thinking was when the rules were written. It certainly isn't clear cut.

I dunno, I think it should be allowed and be addressed at the end of the year but it's not a huge deal. If team D wasn't really intended to be part of the IR rule when it was written, thats fine, I will take them off the IR.

well, the thinking was....that no one was gonna actually try to do it since the rules were written talking about 'player' and a d/st isnt a player, its a collective.

I certainly understand your point Drop...but it's not that big of an issue to me. Yes, an entire team contributes to the point total...but it's not like the team defense is scoring 45 points a game on average. They are scoring 5, 10, 12 points a week...the same as our other players. So that's why I think of the team defense as a roster spot that is on par with every other position.

but to expand it...there are only 5 d/sts available in our league. so trizzy puts tenn on IR and goes and gets another one to replace it. that leaves 4 total in the league. whats to stop king or bng with no IR guys from snatching up the remaining d/sts and putting them on IR leaving none available for anyone.

there should never be a situation where there are absolutely no players at a position to be chosen from. and thats possible by letting d/sts go on IR.

I think the rest of you nutballs are interpreting the rules the wrong way. lol

but again, let's firm up our terminology in the offseason. If there's no D's to choose from the rest of this year, i guess that'll be everyone else's problem because i'm set with the Saints and the Giants.

Its definitely something we need to talk about in the offseason. I mean since there is nothing about it now, I don't see how its a problem. I think we need to really get the IR fixed for next year. It should only be for injured players, not for defenses or healthy players.
