Default Shorter Verbiage in Passing Game-Same in Running Game-JZ & JC on the field next week

Okay, after listening to Vinny Cerrato's radio appearance we can gleam a few things.

    • Jim Zorn and Jason Campbell will be on the field next week going over fundamentals.

    • No change in the running game. Same terminology, same plays.

    • New passing game, however with a much shorter verbiage.

The third point is very surprising. The WCO is not known for short verbiage. Especially compared to the Coryell numbered system. In the Coryell system a WR's route is a number between 0-9, while in the WCO it's generally words.

Maybe we have something different going on, or Saunders system was not as easy to learn terminology-wise as we were led to believe.

Nice to know our HC and our Qb will be on the field next week. Nice to know our running game should not be too different and I believe Bugel will have a lot of say there. And also nice to know that maybe the verbiage in the passing game will be easier, which goes a long way in making the transition easier on all offensive players.

I can't say all this is fact, but if it's true than it does mean there is either continuity or some streamlining going on.

I find it hard to believe that WCO terminology is simpler than Coryell terminology, but I would be a fool to say I know more about football terminology than Vinny. If you think you know more than he does, than please teach the rest of us.

Exactly...This was music to my ears! I love the fact that JC is already ready to work, and the fact that we have a coach proven to develop young QB's coaching him...

If any of you get to meet Zorn, you'll get how easy this guy is to like and respect at the same time. He's not some legend; he's down to earth. And there's no arrogance, but he's confident. He's all about hard work, but likes to laugh. He was a damn good player. He knows the ropes. Feel me?

Jason should love him and work hard for him once he gets to know him.

Great. Now get Moss out there with them to work on the deep post and everything will be set.

Hmm I don't know. The running game should be fine. I hope the WR's are out there Learning terminology with Campbell because Im almost certain it's easier for a WR to know the Air Coryell Number system.

    1-Flat/Hitch
    2-Slant
    3-Out
    4-Deep In
    5-Comeback
    6-Curl
    7-Corner
    8-Post
    9-Go/Fly/Fade

I mean Im sure anybody who's ever played football can pick that up in minutes. But Im not an NFL WR so who knows. Maybe words are easier.

As long as Jason and Randle El get to keep "Balco" we should be alright.

Man I can't tell you how excited I am that Zorn and JC are already going to be hitting the field.

I really think Zorn is going to be good for JC.

Well yes and no...this is a modified version of the WCO, a Holmgren style WCO...and with this being Zorn's first year i am pretty sure he is going to simplify the offense at first

Isn't Coryell's offense considered "west coast?"

Good simplify the offense and allow it grow after you see what the players are capable of and what their strengths are. The best QBs in this league and those who are in the HOF stayed under 1 system and were allowed to grow under their system each offseason

well at first it was called the WCO until they labled Walsh's Offense as the WCO...its very confusing...but the Coryell is a little different than the WCO. the verbage is a lot different

Very true...you have to adapt your offense to what players you have and what they can do...it is a lot easier to do that than to make your players try and adapt to your style of offense

Originally, Walsh had a deep passing philosophy, kind of like Sid Gillman's way back in the early 60's. I believe Gillman's is the original WCO.

When Walsh was at Cincinnati, he had a QB named Greg Cook who, from what I have heard, was better than Namath and just about everyone else. Cook got a shoulder injury and had to retire. Walsh adapted his offense to match his new QBs.

It became a short passing attack. Walsh called it the "Cincinnati" offense. Not as sexy as the WCO, so the name never stuck.
