CharlotteObserver: UNC student president found shot to death

CHAPEL HILL --
A young woman found shot to death in an intersection in the Hillcrest neighborhood early Wednesday was the student body president at UNC-Chapel Hill, police said today.



Police identified the dead woman as Eve Marie Carson, 22, of Athens, Ga., a Morehead-Cain scholar and a senior. They have made no arrests and have no suspects.

Investigators are looking for Carson's stolen 2005 blue Toyota Highlander with Georgia license plate AIV 6690. They believe the vehicle was taken during the crime.

Town Police Chief Brian Curran said police have no motive for the killing. "At this point what I'm thinking, what it feels like, is a fairly random crime," Curran said.

Carson was last seen alive at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Curran said.

As student body president, Carson served on the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees. She spent the spring semester of 2006 on a UNC Study Abroad program in Cuba and later studied in Ecuador. She was majoring in political science and biology and hoped to go to medical school.

Brilliant, gorgeous girl. What kind of world is this? Seems like a tragedy like this occurs every single day. I can't even imagine the pain that her parents, family, and friends are feeling. It's beyond belief. Here's the UNC press release:

People just don't value life anymore. And unfortunately the ones that do pay the price.

Yeah, when I saw the headline, I thought it was the same, but unfortunately not. There was a thread about the Auburn girl: http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/s...d.php?t=240938

This headline jumped out at me because I was really involved in student government in college ... I guess if I had been murdered I would have had the same kind of headline rolling across the ticker.

Both cases look like they may be just random crimes though. It's just sad.

wtf is happening to all these beutiful ladies at universities??? My heart goes out to the families of all vicitims of crime especially for the stories we never hear.

btw, all this senseless killings can be directed at our society and the lack of value for life we have...........Whether its on tv/movies, the news or in music violence is accepted and tolerated........Society needs to take a look in the mirror........

This, combined with the Auburn case, and a girl I was friends with hanging herself a couple weeks ago...just bizarre. These pretty, highly-appreciated and loved girls having their lives end so early, just damn unfortunate.

I won't tell you that I was Eve's best friend, but I was a friend and a colleague. I worked closely with her as a member of her Cabinet in Student Government. She was the most genuinely "alive" people I have ever met. She was so innately good. It was impossible not to match her enthusiasm for life, student government, or whatever was on her mind. We all miss her dearly. Eve was an amazing person; this crime is absolutely unthinkable. It could only be committed by the most mentally deranged individual. I just hope that Eve's family, friends and the campus will not have to ask "why" forever. The world lost something great Tuesday, but I am so blessed to have been afforded the friendship of such an incredible person.

Senseless killings of two promising students at UNC and Auburn.

Seriously. Crime seems like it's getting out of control. Earlier this week some 6 year old was shot in LA as his family was looking to buy a car. Last week someone decided to randomly open up on a bunch of students waiting for a bus. This week there was also another HS athlete shot and killed steps away from his house... star athlete, his parents disciplined him and put him on an 18-year plan since day 1.

I think when it was mostly contained to gang-on-gang violence no one cared too much, especially since they could move away... but now no where is safe? I don't think our government cares about random, senseless crime like this...
