Default What do you hold in the highest esteem

A thread started today which provoked a couple of bannings and outrage prompted this thought. What is unassailable to you? What do you hold in the highest esteem?

Is it Mom, apple pie, the White House? Is it the Redskins, Joe Gibbs, D Green. Is it the Church, the Torah, Buddah?

What do you honor and hold in the highest esteem.

For me, I have always said that I love my country more than any government and I believe that holds true today. The ideals, beliefs and spirit of the United States of America is incredibly durable and powerful and important to me. As for the Presidency, I have respect for the office, but individuals... not quite as much. They're human and capable of faltering or being corrupted. Apple pie? You can't go wrong with a good apple pie especially when served with ice cream. Mom? I will always deeply respect my mom for who she is, what she has accomplished, and what she survived to try to give me oppoutunities.

God? Are you nuts? Of course, I do. Well, I believe in a creator. Church? Not so much. I believe that the chruch and bible (and Torah) are tools that are often misused and have been sources of abuse.

Anyway, I'm blathering. Have you become so cynical that you hold nothing in high esteem anymore or are there still things that you believe in to the depths of your soul (or for you heathens) consciousness?

For the most part, I have become very cynical, not holding much in high esteem. While I hold respect for the office of the president, I don't hold the current president in high esteem.

Every once in a while something or someone comes along that I think "Wow, now that's exemplary!" But at the moment I can't think of anyone or anything. Maybe something will come to me later.

EDIT: BTW, I knew this was a Burgold thread just by the title.

    The Redskins hands down.

There is little question that who was picked to be HC of the Skins recently was going to have much more of an affect on my day-to-day and possibly even long term happiness than whoever wins the primaries and most likely GE.

See, I'm lucky in that way. I hold the artworks of the renaisance masters in high esteem. The controlled vauldervillian lunacy of the Abott and Costello in high esteem. The music of the Beatles or Chopin in high esteem. All those folks who worked the underground railroad or our millitary today for their decision to volunteer to help preserve our values and our lives.

There are days when I think that it all sucks and then there are days when I look about and am amazed at how beautiful the world still is despite many of our best efforts.

Principles and ideals: like honesty, integrity, perserverance, charity, sacrifice, loyalty, humility, kindess, stength, empathy, justice, courage, tolerance, committment etc. Hard to live up to any of them all that proficiently, but they motivate and inspire me, particularly when I see others capture them in words and deeds. I also hold the beauty and majesty of nature of our planet and all the universe in that ultimate esteem. And the idea that while it so often seems otherwise, there is a spark of Great Doings in mankind, and sometimes it shows in our various works.
