I only need 5.1, but cannot find a receiver with 3 HDMI inputs. So, with the receiver you specified . . . I would not need optical? In other words, I hook up DVD, XBox 360, and DirecTV receiver to the 3 HDMI inputs and the HDMI output goes to my HDTV? Will that take care of my sound or would I still need to use optical?
For example, say I am playing XBow360. I know the HDMI cord input will give me my HD video, but will it also output digital sound without an optical cable? Does the Onkyo take care of all of that?
EDIT: I'm looking at this one.

It has 3 HDMI inputs, 1 HDMI output, and I think 2 optical inputs.
Also, I'm think about upgrading my speaker wires. My Sony system has these connectors and I'm not sure what I will have to do with them in order to connect them to the Onkyo receiver.
