    Default JLC Blog: Final Notes

Hello there. Most of this is going to read like straight newspaper stuff, cuz, well, it is. OTAs ended today and the Skins don't have any official business planned until players report July 19 for training camp. I'm going to be draining my vacation and comp-day balances over the next 4-5 weeks, so the daily posts will dwindle some. But hey, it's the calm before the storm and I got a house to sell and a family stuff to sort out. If anything big happens I'll get on it, but aside from mundane stuff like signing draft picks, this is truly the only dead time of the year on the NFL schedule. Hope you guys enjoy the start of summer. Cheers

    FINAL OTA STUFF:

Redskins Coach Jim Zorn expects to have most of the roster cleared for full contact when training camp opens July 20, with a few exceptions. Zorn, who concluded his final offseason practice yesterday before the team's summer break, said that cornerback Carlos Rogers, defensive end Erasmus James, rookie safety Kareem Moore and tight end Tyler Ecker.

Rogers is coming off major reconstructive knee surgery after tearing ligaments last season and could end up starting the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list. All of the injured players were spectators during the last two weeks of OTA practices, with most of them limited to jogging and light individual drills. Starting receiver Antwaan Randle El (knee), linebacker Rocky McIntosh (knee), safety Vernon Fox (knee), and rookie quarterback Colt Brennan (hip) are making good strides and all should be fully participating at the start of camp, Zorn said.

McIntosh is also coming off of season-ending knee surgery but is scheduled to be medically cleared on June 19, Zorn said. James is rehabbing from a second ACL tear and Zorn said yesterday that it would be ambitious to try to have him practicing when camp opens. "We need to hold him back a little bit," Zorn said.

VERY good to hear about Rocky. I sometimes think he's underlooked by us fans. He is a very special player I think. He might be one of the fastest LBs in the league.

Also good to hear everyone else making their progress. Were gonna need every last one of them.

    Default OTAs end.. Zorn remarks

    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/

I came across this and wanted to share what I thought was intresting...

OTAs ended today and the Skins don't have any official business planned until players report July 19 for training camp.

Zorn was pleased with what his team accomplished this offseason and is eagerly awaiting the start of his first season as an NFL head coach. He'll back away from the game for a spell during the next few weeks - "I want to relax a bit with my family, because I know what's coming," he said - but will have his mind on the game as well as Redskins Park goes quiet for the next four weeks.

Zorn, who is changing the team to a West Coast offense, said the running game is now fully installed, as well as "a really good portion of the passing game." Zorn praised the effort of his players, saying there has been "no complaining" and "no moaning." and urged them to act professionally while away from the team these next few weeks, urging them to "be careful."

"They're grown men," Zorn said, "but some of them have more maturity than others."
I really like his laid back style, and letting "Boys be Boys", within limits.

I know it's propaganda, but I am eating it up.
Feeling good about the upcoming season.

Is it just me or does it sound like maybe Zorn's camp is to relaxed...I feel like he is running a circus...
On defense, I was a little relieved to listen to Greg Blache after the game talk about how they left guys like Justin Tryon and Kevin Barnes on an island on purpose to see how they could/would handle man-to-man coverage. Still, if they had been deserted on an actual island, their performance last night could be compared to resorting to eating your own arms and legs to survive.

It's OTAs. Once training camp starts expect everything to intensify.

The next four weeks are the longest four weeks of the year.

I'm so excited to see Rocky out there on the field and being back to full health.

Only a few months away and a month and a half until Canton!!

I personally like Zorn's laid back approach. But, from everything I have read he isn't laid back on the practice field. I respect the fact that he seems to be VERY hands on with the players. I felt at times that our players needed that (obviously Gibbs didn't bring that).

I think Zorn is allowing the players to be players. The Mike Sellers interview really struck me because you could sense there was almost a certain relief off some of the players on how Zorn is approaching this.

Sure, its early, but my opinion is that I think the players will relax, and hopefulyl it will allow them to have a great camp and roll into September with a quick start

Zorn was a NFL QB. He won't have any problem keeping our franchise from becoming a circus. Seriously c'mon. He's been telling people what to do since before he had nut hair.

The laid back style he has makes people work harder. He trusts you to do what you need to do. You know you better be ready when he calls your name.

check this piece and take note of the loss of Portis' privileges.

That doesn't happen if your HC is weak. It doesn't always happen that the 'star athlete' involved is working hard with a smile on his face after having just lost some special treatment either.

The train is rolling and Jim Zorn is definately driving. Vinny has presided over a number of good moves since his promotion but none more important than the HC hire. IMO
