Hello there. Most of this is going to read like straight newspaper stuff, cuz, well, it is. OTAs ended today and the Skins don't have any official business planned until players report July 19 for training camp. I'm going to be draining my vacation and comp-day balances over the next 4-5 weeks, so the daily posts will dwindle some. But hey, it's the calm before the storm and I got a house to sell and a family stuff to sort out. If anything big happens I'll get on it, but aside from mundane stuff like signing draft picks, this is truly the only dead time of the year on the NFL schedule. Hope you guys enjoy the start of summer. Cheers
FINAL OTA STUFF:
Redskins Coach Jim Zorn expects to have most of the roster cleared for full contact when training camp opens July 20, with a few exceptions. Zorn, who concluded his final offseason practice yesterday before the team's summer break, said that cornerback Carlos Rogers, defensive end Erasmus James, rookie safety Kareem Moore and tight end Tyler Ecker.
Rogers is coming off major reconstructive knee surgery after tearing ligaments last season and could end up starting the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list. All of the injured players were spectators during the last two weeks of OTA practices, with most of them limited to jogging and light individual drills. Starting receiver Antwaan Randle El (knee), linebacker Rocky McIntosh (knee), safety Vernon Fox (knee), and rookie quarterback Colt Brennan (hip) are making good strides and all should be fully participating at the start of camp, Zorn said.
McIntosh is also coming off of season-ending knee surgery but is scheduled to be medically cleared on June 19, Zorn said. James is rehabbing from a second ACL tear and Zorn said yesterday that it would be ambitious to try to have him practicing when camp opens. "We need to hold him back a little bit," Zorn said.
