    Default Anyone on Twitter?

I've been reading a lot of things online lately and realized that a bunch of people are addicted to twitter.. anyone on here on it?

I'm IONTOP on there for anyone who has it...

Also... I'm not really sure what the point of it is, but I want to be a cool guy/early adapter...

RIP Blake Fomby... You will be missed... Love you brother. Hope they keep the roof open at Cowboys Stadium so you can still watch them from up there...

Not a user. I'm not sure I see the point, at least for my usage. I already have mobile e-mail with different groups set up so that I can easily communicate a mass message to them.

I could see how it might be an effective way to get alerts out in an emergency.

In my life I'd like less broadcast e-mail, not more.

There is a great podcast called Twit'er. This Week In Tech. It's a round robin discussion of what's going in technology week to week. Usually it's got John Devorak, ( byte maganize, PC magazing editorialist) and a few other younger guys.... It's one of my guilty pleasures in podcasts every week.

Recent shows included "Bill Gates - not Evil"... a group of old crusty technology guys recalling stories of Bill Gates from the early Microsoft days; on the week he retires from day to day involvement in Microsoft's activities.

That's my favorite Podcast out there. Why a guilty pleasure? It's a great podcast. Leo Laporte is a pretty entertaining host. And the group they have on there is usually pretty good.

Anyway, I thought I was the only person around this place on Twitter. Follow me: joecarterjr

Twitter is a very simple social networking site and asks you one simple question, "What are you doing?", and in 140 characters you answer that question. Pretty much a mini-blog system that your friends can follow in a very quick and easy format. That's it! It's a great concept. It's a quick and easy way to keep up with the people you care about, without having to go through the hassle of picking up a phone or sending an IM and getting involved in a long conversation. It's all the joy of being social, with all the joy of being anti-social as well ... a true geeks dream. You can also send quick messages to any of your friends by typing in @screenname, and the comment will be directed to the person of choice. They've also made it possible to update Twitter from your cellphone. Which is also very nice. If you're going to get a drink and you don't feel like calling everyone, send a quick message to Twitter that all your friends can see, and if they're interested in joining you, they'll show up.

I understand this, but why is this better than mobile e-mail. Is it just that everyone has text on their phones pretty much but not e-mail?

I like Leo too. I also really enjoy the pod cast and really look forward to it every week.

Guilty pleasure because it's an uber geek show. My wife shames me.

You should shame her for not being an uber geek. Do you ever listen to Cranky Geeks? That one is hosted by John C. Dvorak, the crankiest of all geeks. I just started listening to it. It's pretty good.
