All the clips I've seen, I thought she did really well. She was poised, articulate and didn't fumble words. Obama supporters will find flaws and say she isn't ready for VP. Those who support McCain are pleased with Palin and think she's ready for VP.

All the analyst I've seen said she did fine and was well diciplined.

I haven't seen this part of the interview. If you have and there is a link, please provide. I took the shortness of the answer in the transcript may play differently on air if Gibson cut her off to make sure that Palin & the audience understood he was talking about preemption and not about merely going after terrorists and those who harbour them or the offense vs defense argument or blood for oil... Gibson HAD to clarify what he meant for Palin and the audience. Anyone legally trained should know that.

So you believe our foreign policy is about giving government back to the people? Or that it can be boiled down to energy issues? Do you also believe we should go to war with the Russians if they decide to stay in Georgia? What about the comment that Russia was unprovoked when it invaded Georgia? Oh, and then there was her heavy use of "hope" as a crutch. Nevermind that these are the same folks that have ridiculed Obama for trying to inspire voters with hope.

You've got to be kidding me....unless you're setting the bar incredibly low. If your criteria is that she didn't collapse into a ball of crying goo then yes, she did pretty well. If like the rest of us your criteria was whether she made you even moderately comfortable with a 72 year old POTUS in front of her, then you're on crack.

I just can't wait to see how she's going to solve the problem of the millions of Americans without health insurance with her knowledge of energy policy.

Smoot - I am a obama supporter. So this is biased. But reading this, I figured she just paused. But watch it.

There is no doubt she didn't know what he was talking about

Realistically, that's one of the two best answers to that question in her position. The other possible answer is something like...

"Well, based on my position, I don't think I really should comment about possible responses to further Russian aggression. It wouldn't be responsible as somebody that might play an important role in making such decisions, but I do think we would consider a wide range of options and at this time wouldn't take any option off the table."

Of course, if she had answered that people would have complained that she gave a canned answered.

SHE CAN'T SAY THAT THERE WOULD BE NO MILITARY RESPONSE TO ANOTHER RUSSIAN INVASION OF GEORGIA.

That would be basically BEGGING Russia to reinvade.

    I can't belive that's not more of a issue!

He says "Would you support the ukraine and Georgia joining NATO"
She says she would support it. He points out that would mean we could go to war with Russia. She accepts that. He says how well do you know Russia? What is your experince with them. She says you can actually see Russia land...

I thought her Acceptence speach really put her on the map.
This brought her down a peg.

Palin wins the night. We're still talking about this and nobody has even started a thread on the McCain/Obama forum tonight. Anyone watch?

Actually, what you posted is not a canned answer. It's the RIGHT answer and if she'd said that I would have been duly impressed. Now to be sure I would have chalked it up to her being well coached, but it's the right answer regardless.

You got it backwards. They talk about Georgia a little. Then he asks how being close to Russia has affected her knowledge of Russia (then her answer), and then they talk about NATO and going to war.

It doesn't sound as bad as you have it in the actual interview or transcript:

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2...5782924&page=2

He specifically ask about the proximity of Russia and Alaska. She's obviously BSing an answer, but it isn't like she brought it up.

She needs to learn to say, 'I really don't think I should answer that question at this time due to my future possible role in making such decisions.' (i.e. Ukraine and Georgia in NATO).

It isn't the right answer if you are planning on taking a Monroe Doctrine approach. Her's was then.
