Question If the president elect dies before taking the oath; who becomes president?

If the president elect dies before taking the oath of office; who takes the oath of office on Jan. 20th?

    Is it the vice-president elect?
Is it the loser in the presidential contest?
Is it the speaker of the house?
Do they give the job to the current vice president?

Is this a trivia question? I'd assume it would be the vice president elect taking over at the inaguration.

    Well, it isn't 2, 3, or 4.

It might be none of the above.

"Section 3 of the 20th Amendment provides that if the President-elect dies before his or her term begins, the Vice President-elect becomes President on Inauguration Day and serves for the full term to which the President-elect was elected. The section also provides that if, on Inauguration Day, a president has not been chosen or the President-elect does not qualify for the presidency, the Vice President acts as president until a president is chosen or the President-elect qualifies. Finally, Section 3 allows the Congress to provide by law for cases in which neither a President-elect nor a Vice President-elect is eligible or available to serve."*

How about this one? If Obama is elected President, and dies in a car accident before taking the oath (a la Princess Diana) does Joe Biden then get sworn in as the President? This is for all libs who want to keep making McCain's age an issue. Yeah, keep talking about him McCain dying and I'll keep talking about Obama dying too.....

That idea (McCain dying) has gone from something to consider to a definite. And the timeline has just moved up also.

What if Obama wins the election and is the president elect but doesn't die like McCain but actually lives to take the oath? Who becomes president? Obama? That prospect gives me the shivers.

What should give us all shivers is no matter who wins ,Pelosi is two heartbeats away from the presidency.

I propose a requirement that after the election the VP and POTUS are required to remain in separate areas and not travel together.

People are more comfortable with Biden being President than Palin. You would really trust Palin with the nuclear codes? You would really trust Palin with our country without any hesitation? You trust her staring down Putin?
