Default Fantasy Hockey question (Ovie related)

First off, let me say that i know this is in the wrong forum. I posted this here purposely though because anyone who's been to the Fantasy/Madden forum knows that the only fantasy talk that's going on there is Fantasy Football. I figured if i posted here, some of the hockey heads could give me some decent advise.

So i just drafted in my hockey league this morning and i told the guy who had Ovie that i wanted him. Well, he offered me a deal and it looks like this....

He gives me, Ovie and Phoenix Goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov

and I give him, Ilya Kovalchuck and Evgeni Nabokav

Now here's the thing, he has TWO better goalies on his team than Bryzgalov. He also has Luongo and Lunvdquist.

So, i countered him with Kovalchuk and Nabokav for Ovie and Lundvquist.

Is that fair? Am i asking for too much by asking for Lundy instead of Bryzgalov? The dude will have 3 top notch goalies if i do the original deal.....what say the Hockey Gurus??

personally I dont blame you for offering your counteroffer, however you got to think of it this way, you would make out on this deal over him since in my opinion lundquist and nabokov are almost equal of value and ov holds more value over kovalchuk so he would lose out on the trade, so with his orginial offer he would get the better of the two goalies but you would have the better of the wingers. I guess the goalie position now becomes the issue for you, can you afford to give up nabokov and still have a solid number one goalie or do you have a drop off in talent after nabokov? Having 3 solid goalies is great, and if he can upgrade at goalie and take a small hit at lw with his original trade he would do it

i can't say i know too much about fantasy hockey, but I think either way you're getting a major upgrade over Kovalchuk with Ovechkin and I don't think the drop off between Nabakov and any of those goalies is really all that big. Goaltending is a difficult position to project stats for, because most of the time their numbers are more a result of the team they play behind, rather than their overall talent level see (Osgood, Chris). You also can never predict when a goalie is going to break out or fall off the face of the earth.

You are asking a little much, but if this guy is dumb enough to give you Ovechkin who is guaranteed to lead the league in shots(as he does every year) and almost guaranteed to lead the league in goals, while Kovalchuk plays on an Atlanta team that is hands down the worst in the league. If he gives you Lundqvist it'd be a huge steal, but If you're a risk reward guy I'd take that Bryzgalov deal. He had a .920 save percentage playing on a young Phoenix team, a Phoenix team that was close to the post season last year and is going to be a lot better with Olli Jokinen, Pete Mueller, and Kyle Turris who got his feet wet last year. He's also got big JovoCop on the blueline, who is an extremely under appreciated Dman. Bryz is also getting into that age area between 27-30 where Goaltenders start to really hit their stride...The safer play is Lundqvist, but I think Bryzgalov has a breakout year.

thanks for the advice fellas! I'm waiting on what he has to say about the counter offer, but even if he nixes it i think i'll go back to his original offer and take it.

and as a matter of fact, this is a league in which you start 2 goalies and my second guy was our main man, Jose Theodore. So after i pull off one of these deals, i'll have Bryzgalov and Theodore or Lunvdquist and Theodore.

    I appreciate the insight!
