It obviously hasn't made a difference to wilbon or his career but I emailed him and ripped him a new one and haven't watched him since. I think he is a joke. I thought his response to ST's murder was absolutely dispacable and quite frankly if he was white his ass woulda been canned.
My problem wasn't what he ORIGINALLY said. If I am being honest, i thought the same thing when I first heard it but AFTER it was confirmed that Sean was not "bringing this on himself" Wilbon refused to change his stance much less offer an apology to Taylor's family. He is such an arrogant ass that he would rather be "right" then be decent. He is a pig. He is on my "fight club list" right below Keith Oberman and Bill Maher. (ie the three people you'd most want to fight).
That's absolutely untrue. He wrote his opinion. He didn't commit libel, as much as some of the people on this site want to believe he did.
People don't get canned, especially not journalists, for writing their opinions. He did it, and he did it within reason. Also, the racially charged comment won't go over well IMO.
Mr. Wilbon's first statement regarding the tragic murder of Sean Taylor may be accepted as a mistake because he leapt to a sanctimonious judgement without knowing the facts. This may be forgivable in and of itself. His unwillingness or inability to acknowlege his mistake and express regret and remorse for making the first error in judgement confirms that he is an arrogant and self-absorbed sycophant incapapable of rational or civil discourse. I used to find him mildly amusing from time to time...he seems far more infantile and inconsequential these days.![]()

Redskins Fan since 1960!
Hail to the Redskins!
I thought he had a good response.
There were several early statements at that time that proved to be conjecture without retraction. Didn't Santana have a "gang retribution" type statement at the time?
Heck, there a numerous ES people who refuse to back off or retract their "I know ..." remarks.

"Weak right 40 gut. Yum! Yum! How bout that one baby!"
I'm confused as to what of his response could leave anyone unsatisfied.
I love Wilbon. He's one of the only good sportswriters left.
I would not call my question annoying. Considering that Mr. Wilbon wrote the article he should have to face the people who are critical of his opinion, which I was. I did feel that this question needed to be asked and I took it upon myself to ask him what he really was intending to do when he wrote the piece. If you found my question inappropriate then I apologize to you, but I felt that I needed to ask the question, not just because I loved Sean Taylor, but I felt Wilbon disrespected the Taylor family. And there was no reason to say those things at that time.

So what did wilbon say that was wrong?
Hell i thought sean should have left Miami a long time ago and we all know that he had a history there and I thought that if he wanted to leave that chapter behind he should have started some place new like move to DC where those connections are severed. I guess when you have family there it is hard but like even Rolle said, he was in harm's way there.
I really like Wilbon, he is a great sports columnist and seems a generally good guy.
I couldn't really give a **** what people think about him on this board.
