Offender on run, may have new victim

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A woman who went to prison for having sexual relations with one of her students has vanished.

Convicted sex offender Cara Dickey is on the run and parole officers suspect she has a new victim. The former South Buffalo Charter School teacher, who confessed to having a sexual relationship and suicide pact with a 14-year-old student in 2009, removed her electronic ankle bracelet, and disappeared sometime Wednesday.

Not long ago, parole received information that Dickey is involved with another underage boy. Dickey had been out on parole since February 29, 2012, and living in the Back to Basics Ministries' halfway house in Buffalo. Until now, she had never violated her parole.

But fugitive Cara Dickey purportedly called local TV stations to say it’s all a misunderstanding, and that she’s willing to surrender as long as her conditions are met.

The 34-year-old remained at large Sunday afternoon, state officials told the Daily News.

She is asking for the warrant canceled, police to stop saying she was with an underage minor and then have two specific officers apprehend her, CBS affiliate WIVB-TV reported Friday.

A woman claiming to be the former teacher at South Buffalo Charter School told the station she spent the holidays with her girlfriend, another felon. The girlfriend’s 6-year-old brother was with them, she said.

“He was in a bad situation and we wanted to have a nice Christmas for him that was the only thing,” the caller told WIVB.

She had spoken with a parole officer Tuesday about another possible incident with a minor. On Wednesday, she was no longer wearing her ankle bracelet and had fled her Buffalo apartment.

“Her parole prohibited her from having contact with minors unless there was a waiver from her parole officer. And obviously that’s not the case,” Peter Cutler, spokesman with the New York State Department of Corrections, told ABC affiliate WKBW-TV.

A woman claiming to be Dickey also called WKBW-TV to deny that she had inappropriate contact with a minor and that it’s her relationship with another female felon that has upset officials.

“I have been in a lesbian relationship for almost a year. … We have been told to stay apart, and we refused,” she said.

Teacher avoids prison in affair with student by marrying him

A school teacher in North Carolina had sex with a 15-year-old boy, but she avoided going to prison because she married him.

42-year-old Leah Gayle Shipman waited until her divorce was final, then married Johnny Ray Ison six days later.

By that time, Ison was 17, and his mother had to give permission since her son was still a minor.

Shipman was facing 15 years in prison on charges of statutory rape; but now, under North Carolina law, Ison can’t be compelled to testify against his new wife.

Without his testimony, prosecutors have no case.

Tucson teacher's aide accused of sexual misconduct

A teacher's aide at a Tucson high school has been arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with multiple male students.

Clarice Lee, 22, was booked into the Pima County Jail on suspicion of four counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. Police said she has been employed at Amphitheater High School since last August.

During the lunch period on Jan. 18, authorities say Lee allegedly engaged in sexual activity with two 18-year-old students and one 16-year-old student.

The activity allegedly took place in the presence of the three other students and one of them reportedly filmed the incident on a cell phone.

Court records: Woman had sex with boy '40 times'

A Maryland woman who allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old friend of a relative over 10 months last year, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the sex crimes, police said today.

Katheryn L. Carmean, 35, now of Berlin but formerly of the Laurel area, was charged with 10 counts of third-degree rape, continuous sexual abuse of a child and endangering the welfare of a child, Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.



A warrant was issued for Carmean’s arrest Wednesday, and state police took her into custody at her job at the Seaford Middle School at 500 E. Stein Highway in Seaford, where she works as a paraeducator assisting with handicapped students, according to court records.

The victim confided to his mother earlier this week about the sexual relationship, and she notified state police.

Teacher who admitted to sex with former student is pregnant with his child

SAN DIEGO - A high school special-education teacher who admitted having sex with one of her former students -- and is pregnant with his baby -- was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail but will be released early to deliver and care for the child.

Kelly McKenzy Watson, 34, was also placed on three years felony probation, during which she is not allowed to work with minors, and was ordered to undergo counseling.

Judge Laura Halgren said Watson -- who is due April 5 -- did not have to register as a sex offender.

Attorneys said the unborn child's father -- who turns 18 in April -- is in love with Watson and plans to be part of the child's life despite a no-contact order put in place by the judge. Halgren said the victim could be present for the birth.

PYLESVILLE, Md. —The Harford County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that a teacher's aide at North Harford High School has been arrested on accusations that she had sex with a 15-year-old student.


Sheriff's Office spokesman Eddie Hopkins told 11 News that Amanda Miller, 35, of Whiteford, was taken into custody at the school on Monday by Maryland State Police and charged with sexual abuse of a minor and several counts of sex offense.

Police said Miller is an inclusion helper at the school, meaning she helps the teacher by providing support to students, preparing instructional material and charting student progress.



On Friday, police said they received a referral of child abuse from the county Child Advocacy Center. They then interviewed the 15-year-old, who told them he had been communicating with Miller outside of school since December and that they had engaged in sexual intercourse. The boy said Miller had taken him home from school on occasion and that she had bought cigarettes for him.

Definitely. But one thing I'll never understand is why other dudes have sex in the presence of other dudes. I don't give a **** how hot a girl/woman is, I'm not doing the deed with other dudes. Have you followed that rape case in Steubenville, Ohio? People thought it was a good idea to film people having sex with a passed out teenager and then film 20 minute videos making jokes about it. Every person under the age of 25 now seems to think that they live in a reality tv show.

I've told this story before, but I screamed at a younger cousin of mine who was complaining that he couldn't get a teaching job in a district closer to home. He didn't seem to think that having a Facebook page filled with pictures of him drinking and getting tattoos could be a factor in his unsuccessful job search. I had another cousin who took my advice and took down his pictures labeled "America's Most Blunted" before beginning his job search.

I heard multiple rumors about asst principals and teachers, and even janitors that would provide rooms for students, back when I was in high school. There was also a study hall teacher of mine (young dude, like 25) in my last year, who openly said (regarding a female student not in the class) "I'm going to **** her when she graduates."

There are probably a bunch of incidents like this one that go unreported for everyone where action is taken, and it makes headlines.
