There is no evidence that these kind of teacher-student relationships are on the rise, though they could be. There is evidence that certain news outlets have figured out that these stories grab attention.

What annoys me to no end is that I am fairly certain that incidents involving male teachers are much higher, but those rarely become national stories. My father is on a school board and they have had to fire three male teachers over the past five years due to inappropriate relationships with female students.

Offender on run, may have new victim

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A woman who went to prison for having sexual relations with one of her students has vanished.

Convicted sex offender Cara Dickey is on the run and parole officers suspect she has a new victim. The former South Buffalo Charter School teacher, who confessed to having a sexual relationship and suicide pact with a 14-year-old student in 2009, removed her electronic ankle bracelet, and disappeared sometime Wednesday.

Not long ago, parole received information that Dickey is involved with another underage boy. Dickey had been out on parole since February 29, 2012, and living in the Back to Basics Ministries' halfway house in Buffalo. Until now, she had never violated her parole.

But fugitive Cara Dickey purportedly called local TV stations to say it’s all a misunderstanding, and that she’s willing to surrender as long as her conditions are met.

The 34-year-old remained at large Sunday afternoon, state officials told the Daily News.

She is asking for the warrant canceled, police to stop saying she was with an underage minor and then have two specific officers apprehend her, CBS affiliate WIVB-TV reported Friday.

A woman claiming to be the former teacher at South Buffalo Charter School told the station she spent the holidays with her girlfriend, another felon. The girlfriend’s 6-year-old brother was with them, she said.

“He was in a bad situation and we wanted to have a nice Christmas for him that was the only thing,” the caller told WIVB.

She had spoken with a parole officer Tuesday about another possible incident with a minor. On Wednesday, she was no longer wearing her ankle bracelet and had fled her Buffalo apartment.

“Her parole prohibited her from having contact with minors unless there was a waiver from her parole officer. And obviously that’s not the case,” Peter Cutler, spokesman with the New York State Department of Corrections, told ABC affiliate WKBW-TV.

A woman claiming to be Dickey also called WKBW-TV to deny that she had inappropriate contact with a minor and that it’s her relationship with another female felon that has upset officials.

“I have been in a lesbian relationship for almost a year. … We have been told to stay apart, and we refused,” she said.

Fugitive sex offender teacher who had sex with student, 14, caught after being on the run for weeks

A former school teacher and convicted sex offender who was on the run after cutting off her ankle monitor is back behind bars again after police arrested her in Chicago last night.

Cara Dickey had been on the run for weeks after authorities say she skipped parole after being confronted about a possible tryst with a young boy.

The U.S. Marshals Service issued a citation to Dickey for prostitution on February 13 in Chicago, where she was working under a different name, according to WKBW.

'An individual was issued with appearance ticket by the Chicago police for prostitution. The individual used an alias and was released.

Former Pasadena ISD Teacher Faces Several Felony Counts

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) A former math teacher at Beverly Hills Intermediate School in the Pasadena ISD has been charged by Harris County officials with five felony counts.

The charges against the former instructor come upon the heels of an investigation into allegations of improper conduct with four students; all of the students are currently high school students.

The five charges include one count of sexual assault of a child under 17, which is a second-degree felony. Simmons is also charged with two counts of engaging in an improper relationship between an educator and a student, also a second-degree felony.

The two other charges filed against Simmons include on-line solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography; both of those charges are third-degree felonies.

Central Valley Teacher Sentenced For Yearlong Sexual Relationship With Student

MERCED (CBS/AP) — A Central Valley high school teacher charged with having a longtime sexual affair with an underage student has been sentenced to five years of probation and five months in jail.

Twenty-eight-year-old Melody Carter-McCabe was sentenced on Monday in Merced County Superior Court after pleading no contest to nine felony counts of unlawful sex with a minor. Carter-McCabe won’t have to register as a sex offender and will be given credit for jail time already served.

Former teacher accused of sex with student

A former teacher at Northbrook High School has been accused of having sex with a teen who was a student at the school at the time and she now says the boy tried to extort money from her to stay quiet about their supposed relationship.

Kahtanna Culp, 29, is charged with improper relationship with a student, according to court records.



The documents state an investigation into the allegations against Culp came to light on Dec. 14 when she told the principal at the Spring Branch Independent School District campus about her relationship with the teen. She said she wanted to end it, but the boy did not want to and had threatened to go public with the information unless she paid him money, the documents state.

The principal alerted authorities.

When investigators interviewed the teen, who graduated in May, he told them he and Culp had sexual intercourse numerous times while he was a student and she was a teacher, the documents state. He also said he had lived at her apartment intermittently from the middle of April until the end of November.

Ex-substitute teacher accused of sex with student

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -

A now-former St. Johns County substitute teacher is out on bond after being arrested on charges of having sex with a teenager.

Stacey Slamka, 49, was arrested March 20. She is charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.



Investigators say that between December 2011 and January 2012, she had sex with a 16-year-old boy six times.

Two female Long Island teachers pulled from classroom for 'inappropriate contact with football player and wrestler'

Two female Long Island teachers were pulled from their classrooms earlier this week after they were accused of having inappropriate relationships with some of their male students.

Donna Newton-McNally, 41, and Melanie Akerberg, 33, who are both married, allegedly carried on with a wrestler and a football player at Sachem High School North.

The two teachers are now being investigated by Long Island district officials.

Riverton High teacher charged with rape, sex abuse of student

RIVERTON — A Riverton High School math teacher and coach of the sophomore girls' basketball team has been arrested and charged with raping a student.

Courtney Louise Jarrell, 22, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with object rape, a first-degree felony, and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

Cedar Hill ISD Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Students

CEDAR HILL (CBSDFW.COM) – A teacher in the Cedar Hill Independent School District has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with two students.

Teacher Marlena Mints is charged with one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and two counts of Improper Relationship With Students, which are all felonies. Mints is a health teacher and coach at Bessie Coleman Middle School.

The Cedar Hill ISD placed Mints on administrative leave last week after learning of her alleged inappropriate conduct with one of her students. A fellow coach told police that an eighth grader was reportedly bragging about his sexual relationship with Mints. The school district contacted Cedar Hill police.
