Well,blowing someone's head off in GTA after a long day is better than going to Dallas and doing it,in a way...it keeps us sane.

They need more family games like Rock Band. Those really do a great thing in getting the family together.


If they put more emphasis into split screen games, I think it would be a good thing.

Well lets see. Many adults now were kids when video games really starting blowing up with the nintendo and sega systems. Now they have become more and more varied with many different choices for each genre. They provide an escape. Games like GTA are great for venting a little bit, same with resistance or metal gear. Systems like the WII are incredibly interactive and fun to play with groups of friends or families. I think the % of gamers will only increase with time. Theres no stopping it.

The report has all the stats, but I think yes that would count.

However, in the survey 57% of gamers aged 30-49 use a console, while 23% of those aged 50 - 64, so there is more to it than a little Solitaire.

A lot of adult gaming in Japan is on cell phones and portables - it's a huge business that hasn't caught on as much here.

agreed. Also, think of the appeal the Wii has brought to adults. My parents could care less about video games, and aside from an NES and a PS1, I haven't owned any other console. I got the PS1 when I was in 7th grade back in 1997. However, last Christmas my mom suddenly started talking about the Wii, and I thought, wtf. Then I noticed how Nintendo is marketing it both to kids (like N64 and GameCube) as well as to adults.

I could see 23% of 50-64 year olds owning consoles because of their kids/grand kids. In fact, I'd expect the number to be higher.

Agreed, except it was earlier than that for many adults now days. At least for me,(and if many of my friends and peers at the time are an example, I'm not alone with that). The Pong console got things going, and the Intellivision and Atari Consoles really accelerated things. Teens my age or older at the time were playing these things. Some probably got tired and move on, but if the stats are any indicator, some kept going or found that interest again due to kids. I know I haven't tired of the video games in the over 30 years I've been playing them. In one form or the other.
