Default My Space and Linked In

Many of my friends and several of my enemies have been telling me that I need to do this- that it's a great networking tool, a good way meet long losts, and a good self-marketing tool. I have been resistant (although I'm not sure why).

So, what do you guys think of the My Space and Linked In? Do you have a page. Is it fun or too much of a bother. Does it eat too much of your free time (isn't that what ES is for?) or is it a great diversion? What experiences have you had with it on the upside and downside?

Myspace is great if you're a teenage attention whore.
LinkedIn is good for professional networking.

I thought Facebook was the teenage attention whore one. Are they both or am I getting them mixed up?

    Never heard of linked in.

I have myspace, but go on very infrequently now. I still do facebook, though.

Both of which are good for teenage attention whores.....

I think myspace has the market share of attention whoring.
facebook grabs a good % of them as well.
Facebook is easier for me to deal with. Pages load faster because you don't have people with ridiculous backgrounds and songs playing.

Don't fall for that "teenage attention whore" nonsense.

They're plenty of folks (adults) on ES that have Myspace and Facebook pages.

Its just that for some reason many of them are embarassed to admit it.

I have a myspace page but I primarily use Facebook. I've reconnected with alot of old friends because of it.

They are both great ways to stay in touch with friends (MySpace and Facebook). I've reconnected with countless people, and I use my MySpace as a photo album and blog primarily.

    question for you guys....

what makes you think this site is any different then myspace of facebook?

you have a section to post your pics. people make threads (bulletins) all the time stating how they feel. theres a place to send emails back and forth. you have a buddy list just like you do on facebook and myspace.

so what makes this site any different?

Facebook is more for adults than Myspace.
Myspace is great if you're either a kid or looking for music.
LinkedIn is strictly business networking, and I've found it works alright. I mean hell, for free i list on LinkedIn, and I've culled one job from it by doing nothing but allowing people who know me to link to me. So far that's a positive.

I'm on LinkedIn. As others have said it's professional networking. Hasn't done anything for me yet.

I couldn't care less about Facebook and MySpace.

I've got a facebook page. I've been surprised at how many friends I've reonnected with from college and highschool.
I believe my job as a parent is to give my kids all the blocks they need to build a life in which they can attempt to reach everything they strive for and see anything they can imagine. In a world where everybody finds it easier to destroy than build, I wish for my kids to experience the joy of seeing something for the first time and the love of creating something new.
