Default What Blue Ray Player should I buy?

There are some sales going on and I'd like to get a blue ray machine. Up till a couple years ago, I'd just buy a sony but not after my receiver went down and they won't fix it under warranty (excuse was corrosion on the circuit board). So what brand and perhaps model should look at. I don't need a video game machine. Your help is appreciated

Well, if you just need a box that plays video (and aren't looking for it to be a sound unit), bestbuy has a panasonic on sale that also upconverts DVDs to 1080p for $250.

You can get better players for upconverting your old DVDs (players that have more memory onboard will yield a better output, as well as depending on the chipset the player uses). However, if you aren't a true home theater nut (which I'm assuming you're not since you're asking for help!), then you probably wouldn't know the difference between a $250 blu-ray player and a $400+ blu-ray player.

Note: I didn't check out sales at other stores, so there very well may be a better player available for similar or cheaper pricing. Maybe.

Get a cheap PS3 and just use it for Blu ray movies. It's still arguably the best Blu ray player and even better it's future proof unlike other Blu ray players. So you don't have to worry if some Blu ray movies will play or not.

Me personally, I would go for the Blue Ray Players, over the Blue Players.

    But that's just me

Get a Panasonic DMP-BD35. I'm trying to find the best deal on one. Standard price seems to be $299. I saw amazon had a deal at the beginning of Dec. for $209 plus 4 blu-ray dvd's. So I'm looking for something close to the amazon deal. No luck yet though.

Last years model is the Panasonic DMP-BD30K. I'd go with this years model. It has more features and a better processor. They look identical, so be careful when your looking.

Just make sure that you get a Blu-ray player that can be updated. That way you won't miss out on new advancements with Blu-ray or the player.

The panisonic I posted has an ethernet connection that can be used for updates and online extras. It can also be updated via SDHC and cd/dvd.

I second what most other people have said. Get the PS3. You can get one relatively cheap from eBay or somewhere else and you get a future-proof blu-ray player.

Sweet. I just bought a BD 35 last week. My father inlaw bought one over a month ago. Fantasic player and the upconvert on SD DVD's is outstanding. I highly recommend this one. Load time is much faster than my father's Sony.
