    Default Chalk Talk Threads

This is based on TK's "Moving Forward..." post.

I wanted to know what the members of ES wanted in a Chalk Talk column. What kinds of X and O things did you want to know? Various Offenses, defenses, special teams stuff. Anything and everything can be attempted. Even as a person who loves and coaches the game, I obviously don't know everything there is to know, but I'm more than willing to do some research.

If you have any ideas on anything that you'd enjoy added in to the column, please, post here.

Additionally, if you'd like to assist with the column, let me know via PM.

Of course, this is all assuming the staff decides to run with the idea

    Thanks ahead of time!

Per TK's suggestion here are the links to the threads I've started:

Five Principles of the West Coast Offense

Learning the West Coast Offense: Part 2
(This one details running back routes and some protection schemes, but not all)

Learning the West Coast Offense - Part 3 - Receiver Responsibilities

    Suggestions:
Variances of the WCO/Comparisons of Different Versions
    Wildcat Offense
    Zone Blocking
Other Blocking Schemes (Big on Big, Man, Etc.)
    Blitzing (Disguising)
    Defensive Schemes
    Inside Receiver Routes/Responsibilities
Special Teams (Lanes, Hands Team, Coverage, Rules)
    Audibles

Can you toss in links to the previous chalk talk threads you've done so those that missed them the 1st time around can get a better idea of the detail you've put into them?

    Thanks.

I'd like to see variances of the WCO explained.

And the wildcat formation (although I'm sure the Skins' will never use it)..

Variances as far as what? WCO can be extremely different from protection schemes, philosophies, routes, timing, etc.. But they all share general principles

    Wildcat Formation suggestion is noted

I suppose explaining the general principles first and then whatever differences in scheme between different coaches.

General Principles are outlined in the Five Principles of the West Coast Offense post that was linked to in the OP. You may have to read the majority of it, though, to get the real idea. The first post is VERY general for the most part. It gets broken down by a few posters as well as myself as the thread goes

Ahh... thanks for that. I think I read a little bit of that thread but now I will definitely read the whole thing.

    Zone blocking:
    http://phi.scout.com/a.z?s=67&p=2&c=632795

With the line in the shape it is, and the many teams starting to have success running with it(denver for years, recently carolina(made the switch this year), arizona(in the process of making the switch), bears, and vikings) I think it's worth taking a look at . People complain about portis' inability to break big runs, which is mostly due to our blocking schemes.

A great article breaking down the different zones in zone blocking.

Zone blocking as well as other types of blocking such as big on big and man, etc. is definitely a great suggestion!

Thanks for the links as well, may come in handy

    One more thing...

Blitzes? More specifically, how does a defense do a good job of disguising the blitz?

you could go a little more in depth about the different types of WR's(X,Y,Z what each does, what kind of physical traits are needed, how they are used) in the WR thread and Cornerbacks in a defensive thread. A lot of people assume a #1 receiver is always the best/catches the most balls, and a lot of people also assume that the #1 corner usually lines up on the best receiver, same for #2 and 3's. Also a little more on RB and TE roles in the WCO.

Different type of defenses, and what personnel they emphasis on the most: (3-4: LB's, 4-3: DL, ect):
    3-4
    4-3
    4-4
    5-2
    3-3-5
    5-2-4
    Tampa 2
    cover 1
    cover 1-free
    cover 2's
    cover 3's
    cover 4's

if you'd like anything from me let me know.

also might want to work on making a big index of closed threads so player debates don't get intertwined into these. Make them editable over time, but a big index(an advanced 'football for dummies') would be nice.

KDawg, watch out now. You may have created a monster job for yourself here.

You have done a great job on those other threads. Keep up the good work and if I can be any help, let me know.
