Also, my question about how does it work with the Keurig filter with out existing coffee would nullify that cost differential.
Not sure what the Keurig filter question means????? Or nullifying???

I think when I priced it out before, simply from a cost perspective, the Keurig is 40-60 cents per cup versus 5 cents per cup. So it's about 10 times as expensive per cup. On top of that the cost of the machine is more expensive. In no way is it a bargain from a coffee drinkers perspective, it only is a convenience machine.

It's less mess, convenience is the key part. But definitely, filter without, or whatever is cost prohibitive to most.

They make a filter that you can put your own coffee in. So you don't need to buy the K-Cups.

I was curious how they brewed compared to the K-Cups.

So using my own coffee in that filter, would nullify the cost of the K-Cups.

Also, what coffee are you buying which averages out to 5 cents a cup?

The bags of Dunkin we buy is 80 cups. But that is 80 6oz cups. That is about 15-20 cents a cup for us.

The K-Cup will do 6 - 12 oz cups. Not sure how weak a 12oz on the K-Cups will be. Will know soon enough. When I make a 10oz cup with them they are fine. My buddies doesn't do the 12oz, but the platinum we are going to get will.

Picked up the Platinum this weekend. So glad we did. Love how easy it is to make a cup of coffee or some tea, and the nice variety I can get.

Have to get a My-KCup next so I can use some of the coffee we have left over and a carousel.
Registered online and will get 2 free boxes of kcups with 2 purchase.

Kohls had a nice sale this weekend (who would have thought!) and we got it for like 150, and that includes about $100 in kid's clothes.

2x $10 off, 20% off. and got $30 in Kohls cash.

I also got one for Christmas and absolutely love it. As a background, I love the taste of coffee but would only drink it occasionally. I'm not the daily-three-cups-a-day type. Now, I'm having a cup daily and it is fantastic. In fact, I'm so afraid that it might break, that I bought a backup while on sale (i've had some instances where i press brew and nothing happens).

In terms of my favorite, Tully's makes an extra bold Italian Roast that is awesome.

As for the filters for use with loose coffee, I have one as well and it brews much weaker than with the cups. There are many pages on the web that give instruction on how to fix that by using a used k-cup but I've never tried it. I just stick to the Italian Roast and Dark Magic (can't remember who makes those and i'm out right now).

That is good to know, will probably get one and see. Maybe just make smaller cups.

I bought a box of Tully's Kona and I am really liking that. Nice wake up on the drive to work.

This machine figured out how t take a major habit and make it even more unsustainable, with a reward of just terrible coffee and people love the thing, because it's so much easier.

Coffee can be delicious. It can also be almost impact free. The Kuerig changes all of that.

I wonder if that's the proper spelling from the Bono episode of SP.

Agreed. The stuff has a chemical taste to me. I'm learning to hate the fact that it generates so much waste.

those damned machines are terrible. i "inherited" one for my office. the cheapest k-cups i can find are .50 a pop. it makes a ton more sense to brew a big ol' pot for the office to drink than to dink and dunk cup by cup. i've managed to convince folk to do a semi-major remodel of our lobby... with the feature of a drink station where the keurig will sit waiting for the folks that will actually be paying for my budget. i, along with the rest of the office, will be drinking delicious ground coffee at a fraction of the cost from our new coffee machine. i really can't wait to be rid of the keurig from my daily habit.

If you are a single person who likes coffee or tea, but won't drink a pot, they are perfect. Or for casual drinkers. My parents got one, but both drink alot of coffee and tea, so I don't understand why they got one.

When I visit my friend in Memphis every year, this is what he has, because they are casual coffee drinkers. I'm not really impressed with the taste. I've even gotten away from ground coffee and prefer whole beans. I have a whole bean grinder on my coffee maker. Put the beans in, put the filter in, put the water in, set the timer to 5:30AM and I have fresh ground coffee waiting for me at 6:30.

That's awesome, but you should get into pressing your own coffee. They are also perfect for the casual coffee drinker and you can make one cup at a time and they produce no garbage.

I didn't like Kuerig either = definitely noted the plasticy flavor. I drink a lot of coffee, instead of the nasty ass speed the docs prescribe for me for the MS, so spending money on it is justifiable IMO. I got a MoccaMaster for ridiculously too much money (though not what they cost new) but it makes the best coffee, at least for a drip machine, that I've ever tasted. The water going through the coffee so much hotter really brings out much more, and a different better flavor.

1, If you use the litle basket provided with these coffee makers you can use your normal coffee (e.g. Dunkin Donuts) so you spend the same amount as you do currently. If you normally throw about part of the pot you save money. It is the same amount of hassle as cleaning the normal drip coffee maker with a basket. Buy an extra little basket or two and you can load em up ahead of time.

    2. If you dont want to bother with that then the Paul Newman Special Blend is more robust than the others at Costco. If that's not enough robustness set the coffee maker to make a smaller cup with less water.
