    Default Home Security....

ADT, Brinks, Monitronics, or Protection 1?

ADT seems pretty expensive, Brinks is still pushing for hard wire security, I've read quite a few horror stories concerning Monitronics, and I don't know a whole lot about Protection 1. Has anyone had good/bad experiences with any of these guys?

    I have Petitbon Alarm myself.

Richie Petitbon's son, but...as his motto goes...defense, a family tradition.

I use a local company called Lane Elctronics, 21 bucks a month, they do everything everybody else does and use the saem equipment that they install for damn near nothing, I'd look for a local entity if I were you.

I'm a big fan of Benelli. They make a great gun.

I have CounterForce. I don't know if they are available everywhere. I have been very happy with them except once when I accidentally let the alarm go off but I thought I disabled it in time. They called my house but the caller id had unavailable for the number. I thought it was a telemarketer and didn't answer the phone. A few minutes later two policemen were knocking on my door. I had to fill out papers and send in to the police station or go to a security class.
Another time the alarm went off on it's own. Scared the crap out of me until I checked all the doors. I called the company and they stayed on the phone 20 minutes with me trying to figure out why the system sounded. Finally decided it must have been a power surge. It's only happened once in 4 years, though.

Parents have ADT. Its worked pretty well. They got the extended warranty where they come out to replace batteries and stuff for free. Its pretty tight. The motion detectors are off the hook. I love turning them on watching my parents and brothers freak when the alarm starts blaring.

Me watching RG3 play on a bad knee.

Never even heard of Monitronics, or Protection 1. ADT - Another Dumb Technician (old alarm guys joke but mainly true)

Where do you live? And is the house under construction? Already finished? If finished its a real PITA to hardwire and windows, but hard wiring smoke, heat, glass and motion detectors is easy as pie.

w/o seeing your house its hard to say exactly, but we install alot of GE Concord systems, the Concord 4s are great for the $ and they are very expandable. Brinks i do believe installs concords now.

If you are in VA or DC and want a system installed correctly, PM me

i have installed them quite a few times, and you could do it yourself.

Price range is about $200 per camera, plus a dvr if you want it to record.
