I'm glad someone pulled this thread back up. I'm getting frustrated with my fat burning abilities. Bust my ass, eat right and it seems I've hit the dreaded plateau again.

I'm guessing my age and genetics are playing a major role. I'm thinking about buying a "fat" burner. I have never tried one and maybe this is what I need to get the results I want. Any suggestions on any particular fat burners and does anybody have any success stories?

    Edit-Another question.

I've calculated my daily calorie needs according to my BMR and activity level. To maintain I need just about 3,000 cals. That would mean I need to eat no more then 2500 cals a day to lose weight.

If I burn an average of 700-1000 cals a day how many cals should I eat to lose weight? Do I still go by my original formula? Or should I eat closer to 3000 cals because of the amount I'm burning?

    Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

My roommate in college lost feeling in his hand for a week due to Xenadrine. I could never take them because im already too high strung. I would never sleep. Ever.

There are better ways to bust platueau's than gimmicks. Change your workout.

That's why I'm scared of those fat burners. I fear side effects.

I'm thinking about jumping on a different cardio machine when it is my cardio days (row one day, cross trainer the next, then treadmill) and also thinking about switching to all dumb bells on weight. Yes, no?

This plateau is really starting to affect my mood and I need some mother ****ing answers you ****ers!!!

From what I have learned, it would depend on how you calculated you BMR. If you did not include your workout, then you need to go with about 3000. If you included the workout in the BMR, its already included, so about 2500/day. One of the main reasons I workout is that the extra 600 or so calories I get to eat a day seem to be enough extra that I don't go around starving 24 hours a day.

Yes. Definitely. Even consider doing something even more drastic. Instead of switching from row machine to treadmill, consider running outside or playing basketball or swimming or spinning classes.

Switch from barbells to dumbells, or machines, or kettlebells. Definitely change 50% of the exercises you do. Consider working in exercises that are cardio-intensive like squats and cleans.

Instead of doing 8-10 reps per set, lighten the weight so you can do 13-15 reps per set.

    CHANGE THAT **** UP!

    I also add this:

If its less than 2 miles one way, walk or bike. The ONLY time this rule is broken is when I go grocery shopping (although the store is within the two mile radius, I want to get at least a week of stuff). Heck, if it's less than 6 miles, I seriously consider biking or walking. I'd say that almost all the exercise I get over a weekend is either doing household chores or playing.

I actually was doing HEAVY leg presses about a month ago. I was trying to start up again where I had left at 6 months before that. My form was bad and i arched my back and ****ed it up. I was fine after that.

Gotta work on my abs which will also help strengthen the lower back. But I definitely have to rehab it by starting with leighter and weight and focusing on good form.

I love doing cleans. Nobody in my gym ever does them, probably because they are afraid they will look stupid........because they dont know how to do them properly.

I was taught how to do them right by Dan Riley, the Skins strength coach under Gibbs I. His 2 sons went to my HS, so Mr Riley would come in and help all the teams put together lifting programs and teach proper technique. The man is a genius.

I have a chronically ****ed up back stemming from a car wreck a few years back, which a re-aggravated severely enough to warrant a trip to the ER in January. Still, ive never had a problem with cleans.

Yeah in this weather ... forget the elliptical and treadmills and get outside on the trails. Run a hilly trail in the beautiful spring weather. Do it steady or do intervals/fartlek. You'll have more fun and get a great workout too.

The long winters here can keep folks inside for awhile. And snowshoeing in a blizzard isn't the best of options. So working cardio on the machines as well as on the indoor track become the primary ways of working cardio. What I have done in the past is actually changing up machines during the workout just to make sure things stay interesting. Splitting the time in 1/2 or even thirds and adjust the warmups and warm downs accordingly.

So I was doing awesome with working out for like 3 weeks then I just stopped for some reason. This morning I finally got back in to it after a weekend in which I drank more beer in 3 days than I had in the last 3 months. Needless to say I feel so much better today after doing some cardio this morning!
