    Pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, oatmeal.

I follow a ketogenic plan myself so those are exactly the foods I try most to avoid :-)

I like the Stronglift one much better.

I had to get up early this morning and go work out before work (I normally go at lunch). However today I did up my last set of squats to 415 for 10 using a 18" box. My squat is slowly working up to what it was a few years back before I hurt my back.

415 for 10 to an 18" box? Nice. Where's the 18" box fall on you? A high box squat, low or parallel?

Just parallel. I'm 6'4 so it's tough. I have to take a bit of a wider stance b/c of my back (bone spurs).

When is your max bench day? I'm guessing you've been doing all those board presses to help with your lockouts, curious to see how much that's going to help. Might have to start doing those.

Anybody ever try German Volumized Training?

I'm embarking on it starting next Monday.

Can't wait and I am preparing myself mentally for the pain. I've heard that it is a VERY effective workout whether you are trying to lose fat or build muscle. I am just too bored with split routines and I am better off with intense workouts.

I am a mesomorph and if anybody has a better workout? Let me know.

I've heard good things and have read up on it in the past, but never tried it myself. You'll have to be sure to keep us updated on how it works out.

I will. The guys were laughing at the gym this morning because they said I am only happy when I am in pain. GVT sounds like it's right up my alley.

Doing a "body building " routine is not for me. It bores the hell out of me. I just want to get lean all over and keeping my heart rate up seems to suit me better.

Google "Christian thibaudeau optimized volume training." that's the one I did. It's a spin off of german
volume training, and he explains why he thinks his version is better (greater variety in exercises, thus fewer stress injuries, etc). It worked for me. Granted, I'm naturally thin so I can't put onuch muscle at one time. I put on about 15 pounds doing this and not doing cardio. Of course, some of the weight gain was fat, but I did get stronger on each lift.

    Thanks Soup!

Went in yesterday and had no motivation at all. I am still getting tired and yawning during my exercises which I think is a little weird. Working out around class two nights a week is becoming a pain as well. I wanted to go Saturday but of course the stupid snow and they did not plow the roads until like 8pm and the gym closed at 6! Hopefully things pick up some this week.

Yeah, it's essentially for lock out strength. Won't be testing until week 12, so I've got over 10 weeks to go.

GVT has worked wonders for some. I myself like Sheiko as it's pretty bare bones. I haven't run it yet, though, but I've heard nothing but good things.

After this 12 week run of Westside I'm probably going to be going on a cut, so we'll see what happens. Probably do 5/3/1 spliced with WS4SB then right back to WS. We'll see.

Dawg or diamond. Do you think the GVT will be okay to do as a "cutting" routine. I know it's primarily used for building muscle but I'm guessing because it's such a quick muscle builder the same stress will help me maintain my lean muscle.

I like the looks of the routine because of the focus factor amongst many things.

Here is the routine I'm building. Thoughts?

    Chsst-Flat DB press.
    Shoulder-Smith machine overhead press
    Triceps-Skull crushers
Back-assisted pullups (40 LBS of assist)
    Biceps-Standing EZ bar curls
    Abs-Weighted crunches
    Quads-Leg press
Hams-Can I do regular deadlifts (I love them) or should I do SLDL's instead?
    Calves-Standing calf raises

You'll be in the gym for awhile doing all of that, but I don't see why not, as long as you keep the weight heavy you should be fine. You can do whatever you like as far as exercises go, but if you deadlift or squat that should be first on the agenda. Even with splits like this I FIRMLY believe in the large to small muscle concept.

Not doing all of that in one day Dawg. Three day split.

I know the deadlift is taxing on the back as well as other muscle groups. I know it's mostly a posterior builder. With that being said, would the deadlift (not sldl) be too taxing on the back.

On leg day I was going to to deads, leg press, finish off with standing calf raises and then puke..

No. I don't think they'd be too taxing. Just monitor and adjust with your volume. You should be okay.
