A little MSG really isn't bad for most people. It's just a different kind of salt. There are other things in there that scare me, but not the MSG.

Lost 12 pounds so far and none of my lifts have gone down. I can't rep as much as before though.

Was doing military presses with 135lbs, and my left arm went numb half through the set. Anyone ever has this happen?

I'm dealing with some pretty bad back pain... Trying to work through it. Going to see a chiro next week.

Once I figure that out, I'm thinking of running a few Sheiko cycles. Could be the best or worst decision of my life

So should a fatass like me (who played sports through high school but doesn't now - almost 20 years later) lose weight before starting something like p90x?

Improve your diet and start exercising 3-5 days/week. The easiest way I got in to a regular routine was to start a training program for a half-marathon. They usually involve running, walking/crosstraining, and some strength training. Signing up for an actual race and/or working out with a significant other or friend will give you motivation to stick with the program.

P90X can be an effective program if you're looking to lose weight and improve cardio and strength, but it's a big undertaking at more than 1 hour per day. I've seen many people start it or Insanity and burn out in a few weeks because it's too intense or the time commitment is too much. They'd have been much better served to start with something more basic that fits into their lifestyle and fitness level.

But most importantly, improve the diet!!!

Thanks Ren. I've had to cut back a lot of junk food because of the gluten intolerance - but my diet is still piss pore.

I was only asking about p90x because it's 1/2 off on Tanga right now and have had friends swear by it.

So my back back got worst last week. I played in a charity basketball game at the school I work... and I put a little too much effort in.

Loose ball... Dove to save it (I saved it, by the way) and went head first into the gymnasium door. The door is one of those push bar opening doors... The door was closed tight. I slammed into it... hard... at the bottom of the door... The force of my body caused the door to swing open.

I felt normal (so I still don't know if I had a concussion ) but then I realized that the spot that I was having low back pain prior was MUCH worse. Sitting was a task after that.

So what does someone do when they're that hurt? They go back in and play some more, obviously... Needless to say I'm in bad shape. Walking with a constant limp and trying to get the swelling in my back to go down still. Hopefully this straightens out. I'm out for quite some time it looks like.

I had to file an accident report and the people who saw it said I hit that door so hard that it was a scary moment. There is a dent in the bottom of the door from my impact

Hoping there's no disc damage. I'm nervous to see a chiro with the swelling right now... And I'm avoiding going to get X-Rays/MRI...

I've been on and off again on the p90x. It's intense and I wasn't completely ready for it. I've been doing yoga and getting my diet right, before I try again.

A dietary change will make all the difference in the world in energy and weight management.

I know that some people are allergic to MSG.

Apart from cost, is there a reason you're avoiding the tests? I'm in the same boat for the most part, I've been through too many X-rays from the start that I knew would be pointless. Although an MRI might be useful because it's probably soft tissue.

I feel that you've been bothered by this for awhile. If not a doctor, maybe a PT?

There is a good mens health link for anybody interested in getting started with yoga.

Might be good for your back too KDawg.

I've had three lower back injuries in the past two months. Chiropractic therapy hasn't been doing enough. Something is definitely up. After pulling a muscle on the right side, I started getting sciatica on my left leg. Its been getting kind of worse the past couple of weeks. Went to urgent care, they gave me prednisone (sp?) for the swelling. It seemed to be working, until I felt some more pain yesterday benching at the gym.

So, I have to schedule an app. with the back specialist to get an MRI. It sucks getting old

One reason is I don't have time. I am taking a night class, I've got meetings for football season, I run the weight room for football, I coach outdoor track, I have a son due in two months, the girlfriend wants me to make time to do things for her (understandable), and I have to go to birthing classes on Wednesdays and some Saturdays for the next six weeks. I work a day job and a security job on weekends... I'm not sure where the heck I'd fit this in.

I've actually utilized low level yoga programs before. I like them.

Definitely skip the birthing classes. Pointless. First time wife couldn't even stand me talking to her while she labored. Second time we had a great nurse who essentially became her labor coach. It sounds like a great idea, but in practice I was superfluous in that delivery room. I should've worn a Colt Brennan jersey.
