The idea that people sincerely would hope for Obama to succeed solely because it is good for America when a Presidency is successful is entirely lost on him. Well, no, not lost. Rush knows damn well that is what people are trying to say. But he prefers to twist it into a weird dig against "political correctness" because he knows his target audience eats that crap up.
Rush knows people believe that but he disagrees with the premise that its always good for America if your Presidency is successful. Of course, its all in how you define successful and probably your political leaning. Does passing his policies mean its successful? Therefore, if you agree with his policies, then passing them will be good for America?

And maybe he mentions affirmative action in this context because he has seen how some people will imply racism is behind disagreement with what Obama's policies are/will be. Its probably unfortunate he brought that up, because he barely mentioned that angle in his whole 'I want Obama to fail' monologue.

Oh..I did think the clip was funny.

I like Fox News, but for the life of me can't figure out why people watch 'Fox and Friends'. Its pretty annoying.

Rush brings up the preference for blacks stuff all the time. Other people are not forcing it on him. Barack the Magic Negro - haw haw. Donovan McNabb is overrated only because he is black. People are only rooting for Obama to be successful because he is black.

He talks about it all the time, then claims that other people are "playing the race card" against conservatives. Rush is a disgusting pig, and not because he's a fatty.

I think anyone with half a brain knows what people are hoping for in terms of a successful presidency. You know, get people back to work, try to get the wars wrapped up properly, ease domestic tension, and bring America back where it belongs in world standing.
Semantics like above is simply spinning it along to fit your view. People want him to succeed because they want our country to succeed. If he passes legislation but people are still out of work in four years and we're still at war, people are not going to view that as "successful", other than the hard cores of the left that will follow him into the mouth of a volcano if need be.
(And I'd be willing to bet that in four years if we're still fighting in Afghanistan, still in Iraq, that will be a daily gripe in the conservative talk show programming.)

Of course, Rush and his apologists purposely will look for other "reasoning" to try to excuse him, but it is as plain as the nose on my face that it is just propaganda designed to keep those who listen to him angry and agitated, and therefore tuning in.
If you think for a second that Rush's radio show is not jumping for joy at the prospect of four years to do nothing but ***** and complain, you're seriously mistaken. Rush's priorities are ratings, and anger brings it to him. Controversy brings it to him. If Bush had a nice quiet presidency without all the turmoil, Rush's show would have had a decidedly different approach then was afforded him through all the liberal yelling over his controversial policies and the war. If everyone thought Bush was doing OK, he has a boring show. Tune in tomorrow to hear more ..uh.. well, maybe he could complain that things are too quiet, and that obviously spells "plot". Who knows. But all the hollering has given him more material than he could have hoped for.

No matter what happens, as has been painted quite clearly this week in this forum, he has a core audience who slurps up his spew, and hungrily asks for more. And now since they're all uniformly pissed off, he has a captive audience to nod along and drone his BS for another four years. (Of course, it's always the same audience, but who's counting.)

As illustrated in the opening video by O'Reilly's unbelievably blatant hypocrisy, (or "flip flopping" as I've heard it called) it's all about what works for the moment. Period.

So if hoping specific policies fail is ok, is it ok to hope a President's foreign policy fails, so long as it doesn't fall in line with one's personal ideology, and still be patriotic?

why anyone hopes for the leader of our country to fail at anything that will influence this entire nation is beyond me.

Oh I totally agree with you.

I'm just trying to figure out what Rush is trying to say exactly, and if is is or is not patriotic.

Cautious hope here. we need a good leader right now, and frankly I don't care where he comes from. I hope Obama can be that guy, because he's who won. If McCain had won, I'd be pulling for him just as hard.

Course, fisting Cindy McCain is obviously very intriguing... especially with his stubby arms.. He'd probably have to get in there up to his shoulder to reach her G Spot.

If you can't see that people do play the race card against conservatives, then I don't know how to help you. And affirmative action or social justice, whatever you'd like to call it, plays a role in many of the debates we have on legislation. He's not going to sit there and ignore that aspect. Does he go over the top sometimes for ratings, sure, but people do that all over the media.

As for Barrack the Magic Negro, I find it funny that people get on Rush for playing a 3rd party parody and not the original editorial written by a liberal columnist in the LA Times.

I hope so. I just don't want them to tone things down for the sake of political correctness and/or party loyalty.

Of course everyone wants America to do well. No one so more than Rush. One of the main things I found when talking to my friends on the other side of the aisle is that we all want the same things for America, but we can disagree vehemently on how that is achieved. The question was asked what do you hope for the Obama presidency and he chose to answer it in the framework of getting one's policies enacted. If you think policies are bad for the country, why in the world would you want them implemented?

As far Rush wanting four years of a Democratic president just so he can keep his ratings, I believe you are sorely mistaken. Besides, he's already proven his rating can climb without one. Bush was getting hammered from the Left day one and he did well before Clinton came onto the scene. There is always something to talk about in politics.
