The question was asked what do you hope for the Obama presidency and he chose to answer it in the framework of getting one's policies enacted. If you think policies are bad for the country, why in the world would you want them implemented?

As far Rush wanting four years of a Democratic president just so he can keep his ratings, I believe you are sorely mistaken. Besides, he's already proven his rating can climb without one. Bush was getting hammered from the Left day one and he did well before Clinton came onto the scene. There is always something to talk about in politics.
Well, by listening to Rush's own words, one could definitely argue he would love to see nothing BUT failure for the next four years regardless of what it does to the country.
It stands to reason if his policies fail, we fail for the next four years. There really is no other way to see that.
Hoping for that to happen is directly hoping for us to fail. (Whether it's because he'd rather see other methods used is really beside the point.)

Nevermind it is directly opposed to the tune he has been singing in demanding support for Bush over his tenure.

    Play for the moment.
We're going to have to disagree on the motivations of people in the entertainment industry.
Hopefully you can see that is what he is.

The media is always an easy target. Also, he doesn't just poke fun at Fox, but MSNBC as well. I actually like the segment where they compared MSNBC's talking heads with Fox's.

I would absolutely love it if they don't dissapoint me, for more than comedy's sake. We need more of the opportunity (and ability) to see the ridiculous nature of so much of the behavior--remember boys and girls, behavior includes all forms of communication --of the elected officials and supporters of all political parties, with a justified focus on the Big Two.

I mean, c'mon, all the Cheny, Rumsfeldt, GW stuff was pretty kosher, comedy-wise. And even if Obama gives few signs of obviously great potential for material so far, we already have Smokin' Joe B., Hillary & Bill (inevitably), maybe-Senator Franken , Man Bear Pig, Oprahcrats, and stars currently unknown but surely waiting in the wings. May the writers find the will, because I believe the opportunities will be plentiful.

mathews has continuously slid down to rival olberman as an amazing goofwad. they don't seem to have the ugly braindead hateball thingy down like savage, rush, hannity, coulter et al, but they take no back seat in sheer igwad /dumbass bias.

Well I finally listened to the segment. And he wants America to do well, but only if it's governed HIS way. If government is too liberal for his tastes, he wants it to fail.

Again, how is that different than a liberal pacifist four years ago hoping we lose the war in Iraq?

Rush's point was not to roll over and let him pass the policies he wants, because Rush believes it will hurt America even worse. Better to fight for what you believe in and hopefully get what you want passed.

I found his original comments in there entirety here if anyone is interested.

As for singing support for Bush, he only supported Bush on policies he thought were right. There were plenty of things in the Bush administration he disagreed with.

The title, of course is "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails"
Pretty straightforward there, no? He tries to justify this by saying that he hopes liberalism fails, but since they're currently one in the same with our administration, hoping it fails is directly hoping this administration fails, which would lead directly to more failure for the entire country..

I could say I hate Goodyear tires, I think everyone should use Bridgestone tires. So I hope Goodyear tires fail so they go out of business. But since you have them on your car, their failure would mean your car accident. So.... even though I claim I don't want you to get hurt, my hope is that you do so the company will be damaged.

I can spin that however I want, but you're still in the hospital, or worse.
And because Bridgestone is doing better as a result, I'm now happy, your health be damned.

Anyway, this thread was about some funny satire on th Daily Show. I think we've learned that the joke is lost on you, so that should be enough. I really don't feel like arguing Rush with you ditto-heads,, it's a never ending circle.

Again I think there is a distinction here that many aren't seeing. Much like a liberal pacifist was against us going to war, Rush does want what he considers liberal/socialist policies to pass. They both think if it happens, it will be bad for America.

That's fine, I think we both agree we're not going to change each other's mind especially when we are arguing from slightly different angles. But I guess that's lost on you.

As far as the joke being lost on me you're mistaken. If you read my earlier post, you'd see I thought it was funny. I only objected to the commentary in this thread that started labeling Rush a racist, etc.

    Bang,

Liberalism is not one and the same with this government. So far, Obama has stayed pretty moderate and the new members of the House and Senate would be considered moderate to conservative by most.

Also, has everyone wuzzed out lately? There is NOTHING wrong with saying you don't want a policy to work if it goes against your ideals or you believe it would damage YOUR country in the long term.

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism!!!!!!

At the end of this episode the "moment of zen" was unbelievable.

They have a puzzle of Obama and after every day for 100 days they are going to remove a piece, revealing a picture behind it which is the "true Obama"

    I agree, and I know.
But the overall tone lately has been anything but dissent.
Wait til he screws up and dissent. Could be he won't. Most likely there will be reasons for some dissension, but as usual, those who profit from our bickering will only keep us doing it. Pre-emptive dissension doesn't make much sense to me.

As I've said before, i try very hard to stay in the middle and look objectively at both sides, because both have merit, and neither one is right all the time. I think most of the time the answer to a problem lies somewhere between the edges.
I view our government officials as untrustworthy and self motivated. I view the talking heads that exist on the extremes the same way.

My belief is the power lies within We the People, but as long as they can keep us at each other's throats, they will because that gives them the power.
Their power comes via our grace. And this is what we shouldn't forget. We're in this together.
