Default Music Thread:What kinda music is everyone listening to these days?

Okay, this will be a bit of a change from all the debating poltics and the like here in the Tailgate.

What kind of music are you into these days?

Myself, I am really into a British jazz group called Down To The Bone. They are a blend of jazz, R&B and dance music. They are not all sedate and mellow like say Kenny G.

They almost never play anything under 5 minutes in length and out of 4 CDs with 41 songs, just 1 has a vocal on it. I saw them live on 5/30 in Richmond, Virginia at Kanawha Plaza, and it was an outstanding show. If anyone lives in or near Columbia, Maryland, they were at a 2 day jazz festival over last weekend.

So enough about my likes, what is everyone else into?

The display on my car radio is all messed up so as a result I listen to the same station on FM and when I want a change I switch to news radio on AM. Anyway, I went out for dinner last week and here in LA you almost always have to valet park your car, when I get back in my car the radio station was changed to some electronica/dance station, and I have kept it there. Its repetitive as hell (both the genre and the radio station playlist) but its been a neat new experience. However I'll probably try to switch it back to the jazz station as soon as I work up the courage to fumble around blindly on the dial until I find it again.

My Favorite band is Deftones, with Tool a close second.
Deftones have a new CD that I have been wearing out the last week.
Being a musician, I listen to a lot of different bands and can play most by ear on guitar, drums or bass. I can read music as well.
I like classic bands like Led Zep, Beatles, Van Halen and Sabbath too. More current bands that I listen to are: Incubus, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Pantera, Slayer, Creed, Godsmack and Alice in Chains. (they are not around anymore, but I listen to "Dirt" and the selftitled CD a ton.)
    Another post down the drain...

Jane's Addictions new album is PHENOMINAL. Other than that, there's not a band out there today that's worth a crap.

I ve been pulling out alot of old Punk albums lately. DKs are getting a lot of play. Fresh Fruit and Holiday Inn Cambodia mostly.

Also playing early Billy Joel albums. Cold Spring Harbor and Turnstiles.

    Kilmer,

You ever listen to Fugazi (or Minor Threat)?

I listen to everything. Well, pretty much everything. I stay away from MTV, and radio music though.

As of lately, I've been listening to lots of old school Bad Religion.

Also, I just got some '71 Grateful Dead shows in the mail, so I've been enjoying them over and over.

Love Fugazi. My freshman roommate introduced them to me. We saw them a couple of times in DC. I dont like Minor Threat as much. They didnt do anything to distinguish themselves.

How about 24-7 Spies? Or Bad Brains?

Bad Brains is one of the greatest punk/hardcore bands of all time. "I against I" is my personal favorite album of theirs.

Bad Brains take the cake out of all hardcore/punk rock bands. Their old sh*t ripped all teh punk rock bands and their newer sh*t ripped all teh hardcore out there.
    Gotta love Pantera though.
Gotta keep it real and listen to everything from Jazz, classical and Modern/rock/pop....

The Geardaddies!! They have since broken up, but their lead singer Martin Zellar is just as good.

You ever listen to Fugazi (or Minor Threat)?
Two of my all time favorite bands. Ian McKaye's the frontman for both and got a great voice. I can see where some people would like one and not the other. Minor Threat is alot rawer and pure aggresion. Fugazi went in a totally different direction, but I think Joe Lally joining McKaye on vocals is awesome.

How about 24-7 Spies? Or Bad Brains?
24-7 Spies! Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Can't remember any of their music now, but I remember I liked it back in my skating days. As for bad brains, I just re-bought I Against I a couple of months ago. I guess you can call it a yearning for my younger years.

As for my all time favorite, just see my signature below.
