Couple drives 170km with cobra in car

A couple has driven 170 kilometres from South Africa's famous Kruger National Park with a highly venomous spitting cobra in their car, a local newspaper reports.

Gordon Parratt, 69, felt the 85 centimetre snake wind itself around his leg while he was driving.

At first he thought an insect had brushed his leg and swiped it away, but when he looked down he saw the snake next to his left foot, the report said.

"Fortunately I'm not the panicky type. My wife immediately put her feet up on the dashboard," he said.

The Pretoria couple made several stops to remove the snake but could not find it, until it wrapped itself around Parratt's leg.

"Its head came up to my knee," he said.

Finally the couple managed to call a snake expert to remove the cobra.

Damn those things are aggressive as hell too, we have a snake museum here and they feed the snakes on the weekends for people to watch, but they don't feed the spitting cobras because they have to have protective eyewear.

The King Cobra is the worst though. If you walk up to its tank and wave your hand around it will come up to the glass and stand up to you at eye level and raise its hood.

They thought it was in the car and stopped SEVERAL times trying to find it.

No sympathy, they obviously weren't too scared. Glad they didn't win a Darwin Award.

If they were driving 580 km/hour, then it really didn't take them that long.

    How far is a km?

Like 6.5/10 of a mile or something like that.

I was at work a few weeks ago, and my boss looked out the window to the parking lot down below and started yelling in disbelief. The rest of us walked over to the window to see what was going on, and this guy was standing outside of his car talking to somebody, with a four year old mountain lion sitting across the front seats.

He was driving it from some animal sanctuary in southern Georgia to Jacksonville and stopped by Tallahassee briefly to take care of some other business, but he literally just had this mountain lion sitting shotgun with him in his car for about a 5 hour drive.

    Unbelievable sight.

Okay, so my brother in law is an exotic animal vet in Roanoke (valley view for you Nokers)

He got his degree from Kansas. He went back there to help with a Discovery channel show about Cobras.

There, the Vet that handles the cobras took him into a small room, about 20 by 10. He pulls out a large rubber trash can. Flips open the lid and out shoots the adult King Cobra. The vet is a kickboxer and where special thick boots. To get the Cobra, he'd kick at it's head and then sweep around with his arm to grab it by the neck and subdue it.
