Default Stock Thread- post good/bad buys

I'd like to keep the discussion limited to stocks traded on the NYSE or Nasdaq.

Anyways, what are some really hot stocks out there right now?

I just bought DOW Chem at $7.95. That's a steal as far as I'm concerned. Also I'm going to buy Sirius/XM... at $.30/share, how can you go wrong? It's a great product, and I have a sneaking suspicion they will pull thru.

Not going to buy, but Alcoa Aluminum is ridiculously underpriced at $6.20.

What stocks do you guys think are hot right now?

I was thinking the same thing a few months ago when it dropped down to .50, but I didn't pull the trigger. One of the satellite TV providers just bought s huge chunk of XM, so they must see potential. Although, with all the debt Sirius/XM has, it is a huge gamble.

If you know how to short the yen or Swiss Franc, I'd roll with that (I'm looking into it myself). Both governments have openly stated that they're getting desperate to devalue their currencies and might just fire up the printing presses if all else fails. Not to mention the fact that Japan is a ticking time bomb anyway.

E-trade is a good one right now (for the long term) Once we pull out of this depression, and people start buying stocks again....E-trade should go back up to what it was before:

$.87 right now. Was $25 a few years ago.

Going along with Zoony's strategy of buying blue-chips at their multiple-year lows, i would buy WalMart. They are trading at 49.90 right now, will be over 50.50 by the end of today, and are 10 points below what they traditionally trade at.

Picked up JPMorgan at $18.12 and ATT at $22.80. I'm looking at JNJ, Abbott Labs or Celgene next.

Has anyone used Sharebuilder - good, bad?

I have a ING Direct account and it seems simple to use Sharebuilder.

This is a secondhand story, but for what it's worth, my dad recently met with a few JP Morgan execs. I asked him what they thought about the next year or two for the company, and he said, "Nothing good."

I believe in Jamie Dimon. This is a long play. Set up a DRIP and let it ride. They'll bring back the dividend eventually.

Keep an eye on large health insurers too. There are a few rumors of takeovers that may in fact come to fruition given some of the recent slides in stock values.

I bought 5000 SIRI about a month ago at .19 cents. Saw it drop to .12 (and almost reloaded) but now its run up to .33. So far so good...

I also gambled that SMC (Central Sun Mining, a small mining company) would get their financing and bought 10,000 shares around .10 cents. They got bought out and now over 50 cents.

1000 IVN (mining company with big project in Mongolia) at $1.84. Now up over $4.

    ----------------
Plenty of bad buys out there. Bought AAV and PWE when natural gas was over $10. Both recently hit 52 week lows. I also held some Six Flags LEAPS that expired worthless.

    Great thread idea.

I've had a good time actively trading by taking advantage of the massive spikes banks and insurance companies are experiencing. I got into citi at 2.10 and sold it at 2.60 in a days time. MTG and PMI were fun for a short time though I don't suggest buying either.

    I use scottrade.
