I hope for everyone's sake here, you all realize we will, at best, fill 2 of these 3 needs. Which is why they have to make a tough choice to walk into a year either thin or old at a certain need spot. It's just a matter of which one they think we can walk in and be in decent shape.
I'm gonna say that because of Albert Haynseworth, Andre Carter will have a much better year than last year, because our DT rotation will be pretty solid and we will at least have some experienced run stuffing ends on the other side (Wynn, probly Daniels). We will likely have experience at the LDE spot, if not depth.
However, the outside linebacker position is a rough spot. We have no experienced vets over there and we have little depth. HB cannot be a starter at that spot for 16 games and we can ill afford to have a special teamer (Fincher, Campbell) be asked to be there full time. We gotta get younger there as well. However, in the 2008 season there was little impact from this position, yet we ended the year as the #4 defense in the league. Our cornerbacks and improved DT situation should compensate for any lack of experience/ quality play here (though it still is important).
Lastly, RT is the number 1 need on this team heading into the season because it was probably the biggest point of failure int he final 8 games last season. Heyer is solid, but he cannot be asked to start 16 games. And Jansen has proven to be a regressing player with injury problems. We cannot expect our offense to get any better this year without improved play from WR and our OL. Since we believe we already have the receiving pieces in place to improve, the focus shifts to RT, where there is no solid replacement for Jansen on the roster, and thus, needs to be replaced by a young quality starter.
So, with that
1. RT
2. OLB
3. LDE
Thoughts (please don't let this be a 'Hi There' thread.....)
