Default How is AT&T's cellular and customer service? Thinking of getting iPhones...

I have had Sprint for 12 years - but they don't have the iPhone and my wife and I need new phones. Sprint's coverage is pretty good IMO, but their customer service sucks. I deal with Verizon at work, and they are great in CS and coverage - but no iPhone.

To anyone that has AT&T.....is their CS and coverage any good?

As a life long Verizon fan, I have an AT&T blackberry and it gets better service then my Verizon phone.

Customer service is usually pretty damn good I must say. I hate my Iphone though. I have the first one that came out so the newer ones are probaly a lot better.

It depends where you live. If you live on earth, it sucks.

Nice to hear about the CS! Is the internet slow on your iPhone?

My service has been very good....I've had ATT/Cingular for almost 10 years. I don't remember the last time I had a dropped call.

I used to have Cingular/AT&T, and it sucked. I'd get dropped calls 25% of the time. There was one corner of one room where we had to stand. Horrible.

Switched to Verizon, and there's no way I'm switching to any other provider. I was VERY tempted to get the iPhone, but I won't if it means leaving Verizon.

    This was my experience also.

I've been called in some very remote places (use the phone as primary clock and forgot to turn it off) and negotiated deals on AT&T wireless in Spain and Trinidad. The only place I've had calls dropped is places you'd expect. I had problems with Verizon but that was years ago (10+ I've used ATT/Cingular and never had any unexpected issues and actually a few surprises like having service in the secure rooms in the Pentagon). Customer services is better than any of the others I've used but, again, I've never had a real need more than change of address or reporting lost/stolen or damaged phones.

There are sevearl threads already about iphones, or iphone vs blackberry and iphone apps

anyway, I had Cingular when they first started roughly 7 yrs ago. I used to hate ATT. Then ATT bought out Cingular a couple years ago (recently changing to all ATT), and so far not a problem.

I just got the iphone a couple weeks ago and it is the coolest thing ever. I use it for my work email, and no issues.

Just like any company, you might get someone who isn't all that up to par on Customer service. But for the most part, anytime I've called, they are great. Any problem on a prior phone, and they have taken great care of me, crediting me at times, giving me free minutes, or even a free phone.

I just got my iPhone 3G a few weeks ago. I switched over from Alltel. AT&T's services so far is much better than Alltel and I get service in my apartment and 3G speeds through Knoxville, Atlanta, Nashville, and all of the places in between. Customer service from AT&T is great and when you get an iPhone you also get that extra bit of CS help from Apple. The Apple Store is filled with knowledgeable people and a great IT department (Genius Bar). There is a reason they call the iPhone the Jesus Phone. I have yet to find something I can't get the phone to do. Here are a few examples:

1.) I bought the 8 GB iPhone which is not nearly large enough to hold my collection of 1,500+ albums. So I use a program called Orb (www.orb.com) that allows me to stream my audio, video, and other files to any source I wish. There is an Orb App for the iPhone that allows me to stream both video and audio to my iPhone without loss in quality and with amazing speeds. This effectively turns my 8 GB iPhone into a 1 TB iPhone.

2.) The new iPhone OS 3.0 that comes out in June will have this built in but if you have a jailbroken phone you can use the iPhone for a turn by turn voice guided GPS system.

3.) The iPhone can be tethered to your laptop without charges ... using an app called PDANet or with one of the guides found on Gizmodo.com

4.) Decent gaming library. The iPhone is being turned into a pretty awesome portable gaming unit with original games releases like Monkey Ball, Metal Gear Touch, and The Force Unleashed. You can also use emulators to emulate NES, SNES, Genesis, and several other classic consoles if you have a jailbroken phone.

5.) If you are worried about minutes you can always use the app Fring to make free VOIP calls.

6.) If you have a Mac the iPhone only gets better. It will sync all of you email address, iCal events, and other data directly to your phone for you upon connecting it to iTunes.

BTW, jailbreaking your phone is not that big of a deal and only takes about 5-10 minutes of your time. It can be reversed at anytime and will not void your warranty.

Pretty much the reason I want to get one. Windows Mobile BLOWS - I've had it for 3 years; it's a complete resource hog also.

I ordered the 16 Gig about 20 minutes ago. I will get my wife's once I activate the new one (family plan).

    Thanks for everyone's input!

If you can cancel you order you can get the iPhone for about $100 cheaper here. It is a refurbished model, but Apple's refurbished products go through more tests than their actual product. If not enjoy either way.
