Can you clean under your computer keys?

Is it a must to clean under the keys? I'm starting to think my laptop may be starting to look like the inside of a toaster oven under those keys. Crumbs and such have disappeared right before my very eyes into little black holes of computer eternity. Should I get something to clean that stuff out of there? Could it affect performance?

First, turn it upsidedown and shake, get some compressed air and with the LT upsidedown spray the air into it. Don't use the air upsidedown. This is the best way without taking anything apart. Now if it is sticky, you can remove the keyboard, I run them under hot water and maybe scrub some soap into it, rinse and let it dry for a day or so then put it back on.

They keys come off rather easy and pop right back on without any wear and tear.
Thus giving you 80% more room. The Top shelf in the Dishwasher works wonders.
Not the bottom, too hot down there.

You can always put the most used key back on the home row to make it easier for you .
