Default Orakpo vs. Oher (Now all things Brian Orakpo's 1st game thread)

Had Orakpo not been there at 13, there was a high chance that we wouldve probably gone after Oher with the pick. There were and are still many fans who think we shouldve taken him instead anyways, seeing as how bad our OLine is.

Anyways tonight we will most likely see them get to go head to head. I want to see how this plays out. While it one game, especially a preseason one, doesn't mean much, ill be dissapointed if Oher manages to neutralizes Orakpo.

I just hope we don't use him in LB too much that we don't get to see how he does in DE.

In his comments after the first day of the draft, Vinny said that they would very likely have traded down as they had a couple of teams lined up. I doubt they would have taken Oher at 13.

Your right Oher at 13 would have been to high but all those teams that wanted to draft up were most targeting Orakpo because he wasn't projected to slip. If we had traded back Oher would have been the man they got because there was no real DE we were interested in that section of the draft.

I hope we get to see these guys go at it for a couple of series. If Orakpo is consistently able to get past Samuels he is gonna have his way with Oher.

Given all the reports about his progress I am very pleased with the Orakpo selection. We have needed to draft a dline/pass rusher for at least six years. No hindsight regrets.

When Orakpo lines up @ DE, he is gonna line up @ RDE, which lines up against the LT. Oher is gonna start @ RT. Gaither is gonna start @ LT. So it will be Orakpo vs. Gaither on passing downs. Not Orakpo vs. Oher.

Just about anytime we know a team is going to pass, Orakpo will be rushing the passer. You'll get to see him at DE plenty.

I think if Orakpo wasn't there we would have looked to trade down above anything else. If we were stuck at 13, Oher very well might have been the pick then. Who knows for sure though? (rhetorical)

I'll take Orakpo any day of the week. I like Oher, he's a solid tackle prospect (and a good kid from reading The Blind Side about his story), and I know we need a tackle, guard, and center, but Orakpo could be a Pro Bowler. At a position we also badly need help in. Can't pass that up.

Agreed with those saying Orakpo> Oher. Regradless of need, you don't pass on a physical freak and potentially great pass rusher, in favor of a lower-graded RT.

I dont think he gets down in a three point stance, (dont want to show everything) he needs work at linebacker so thats where he will be until hes taken out. I think?

Many others thought the Skins would draft Oher.

I was hoping that Orakpo would become a 3 down Sam linebacker, obviously with a major pass rushing role. Otherwise, the Skins have failed to fill the "Marcus Void". At LB Orakpo will have cover responsibilities which is asking a lot of the rookie.

And, of course, moving Orakpo to Right DE on passing downs bumps Carter to the less prestigious left DE slot.

I disagree, I believe Orakpo will get down in a 3-point stance tonight and show what he can do at DE. I think he gets the majority of his work in at the SAM LB position, but I think he gets in a 3-point stance two or three times.

Oher may become a gifted tackle in this league, but he has a lot of hurdles to overcome. Orakpo has no such hurdles holding him back from producing. He had practically no downside. They both have high ceilings but Orakpo had the much higher floor.

I agree, I think if we get them in 3rd and long you will see Orakpo lined up at DE.

That was only 'cause many didn't think Orakpo would fall to us at 13. I didn't think so either so was hoping we would pick Oher.

Our OL was and still is our biggest need IMO but Orakpo seemed like the wise pick. It will be interesting to watch the matchup tonight should they go head to head against one another.
