Default Santana Moss 2005 vs. Santana Moss 2009: What has changed?

I have a hard time believing its simply because he was being double covered more recently. Is there any other reason as to why he has not had the same type of year? He's had flashes since that time, but not the consistent game changer he once was. I'm watching video of the 2005 and he was simply incredible, he had probably over a dozen plays of 40 or more yards before the half way mark of the season.

More press clippings for him to read....believe... and subsequently under perform. Here's to hoping he's a June 1st cut next summer.

    Nothing.

Santana had over 1000 yards last season and 6 TDs. Obviously he had a better year in 2005, but its not like he dropped off the face of the earth.

Could not agree more, Moss and portis or 4 years older and they are average at best now. Moss can't get open and Portis can't break a big run for a TD he can't make anyone miss

IF NEXT YEAR IS AN UPCAPPED YEAR CAN WE FINALLY GET RID OF SOME OF THESE WASHED UP PLAYERS WITHOUT THE BIG CAP HIT?

Moss commanding double teams basically says that he can still play. After all, if he isn't a dangerous threat, why double team him? He's also great for YAC.

2005 was the first year teams had to adjust to the 5 yd rule and thus teams didn't know how to effectively guard him just yet.. The offensive line we had back then was probably top 3 as well

Also, people really under rate our offense that year. We were 11th in offense. I think if we went 11th in offense this year people would go ape ****. Our O line that year, which essentially had the same cast minus Jansen, was dominant. We were the best run blocking team in the league and we were able to execute the run run pass offense and it actually WORKED.

As much as I hate to say this, I think Santana (and also CP especially) both lost a part of their football soul when Sean Taylor passed.

They both seem to have been in a daze ever since then and both look to be "going through the motions".

Those three were tight (all from the U).....

I could be wrong, but I look into players' eyes each chance I get, and I truly believe those two are especially scarred by that tragedy.

Should it affect their game? One could argue that as a professional, no it should not, but at the same time, can you really blame them if it does?

Could it be that this group of men just don't see football as the end all, be all activity in the way that they did prior to Nov. 2007?

In 05 we had one of the better olines in footbal and also did alot of max protect schemes. This helped with longer developing plays and deep passes. Portis running like a beast helped this as well. The main thing was the oline though, That line was vicous in 05 and 06

Maybe teams have realized they just double team moss and load up the box and they shut our offense, or lack of.. Completely down.

That or they are just tired of piss poor play by the rest of the team.

I love Moss, but 2005 was his *exception*, not his rule. Here are his receiving stats over the years:

    2001: 40
    2002: 433
    2003: 1,105
    2004: 838
    2005: 1,483
    2006: 790
    2007: 808
    2008: 1,044
    2009: 2,000

So he's gonna get 2000 this season? He has to do it in 15 games.

He's going to get 1000 yards against Dallas alone, so it's not as far fetched as it sounds.
