Award Considering Selling your Tickets? PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!

I have seen numerous threads started here and in the ES Classifieds with stories of people complaining about not getting close to face value for their tickets or having to just eat them because they wouldn't sell on Stubhub or Ebay.

These people are unfortunately ignorant of a great charity that the Skins run, the "Redskins Replay Ticket Donation Program." All you have to do is fill out a one page form, make copies of the tickets and/or parking pass and/or tailgate club passes for tax purposes, and mail them to:

Redskins Replay c/o Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation
21300 Redskin Park Drive, Ashburn, VA 20147

In order to guarantee the tickets are used (thus earning you the tax deduction), the tickets must be received by the Tuesday prior to the game. Here is the link:

    http://www.redskins.com/gen/articles...Replay_526.jsp

It boggles my mind to see people posting "I sold my $600 tickets to Eagles fans for $50 apiece." If you use this program, you get a full tax deduction from you taxable income for the face value of the tickets. In essence, you have recouped what you paid for the tickets (from your taxable income) and given people who are less fortunate the unforgettable experience of attending an NFL game.

I have volunteered for a similar organization called "Most Valuable Kids." My work included taking underprivileged children to Caps games with season tickets that Alex Ovechkin donates. You may have seen us in the "Ovi's Crazy 8's" Section, and believe me there are few greater joys than seeing these kids' faces light up as they first see the ice at the Verizon Center. For most of these kids, it is a needed diversion from the pain and suffering they endure every day.

I beg you not to let your Skins tickets go unused or sell them to opposing fans for a fraction of what you paid. Donate them to "Redskins Replay" and know you will be providing a great experience for someone who is less fortunate.

    HAIL

    P.S.
Please don't post asinine responses about the Redskins struggles or Snyder, there are plenty of threads for that. This is a serious thread about a worthy cause.

Wow never knew about this. I'll definitely keep this in mind the next time such a situation arises for me. Thanks a lot for posting. This is a great program.

Sounds like a good setup to me. Personally I would hesitate to take any children to Fedex due to the excess drunken debauchery and colorful language, but a noble cause nonetheless.

Edit: I no longer have tickets, but just curious, is there an annual limit to the tax deductions?

I know the OP means well, but this is not correct. A tax deduction is not a deduction for your taxes. A tax deduction is a deduction for your taxable income.

I think this is a really nice gesture and it should be used in the future, however ........... sending kids to a crowd that is domnated by Eagles fans on a school night is irresponsible.

Yeah while the intention of the OP to inform us of the charitable options is clear, the tax deduction information is incorrect.

A tax deduction only reduces your taxable income and you are not getting back the face value of your tickets in terms of tax returns. BIG DIFFERENCE.

This is a good thread, that comes up once in a while, and needs to be stickied. its for a good cause.

That being said, the part I quoted, is not accurate at all. Getting a tax deduction (note its a deduction, not a credit) is not 'in essense ... recouped what you paid for the tickets...'. Its not even close.

Just wanted to point that out, for those who aren't tax savy. Don't want you thinking that you pay x less in taxes, simply cause you donated your tickets worth x$.

edit: i see this has already been covered. lol

Thanks for the clarification, I will edit it.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. However, Redskins Replay does not specifically state that the ticket will be given to children. For example, they could go to the family of a soldier who is deployed overseas. Besides, it would be pretty hard to get your Eagles tickets to Redskins Replay by tomorrow unless you overnight them.

do your taxes enough and you'll know the difference between a tax credit and a tax deduction very well

wasn't trying to harp, sorry to be the upteenth poster to point it out.

but like i was saying, this is something that needs to be kept in everyone's mind. I feel stupid for not turning in my extra ticket for it, i completely forgot

I use Most Valuable Kids for all my preseason games. It is easy and painless. This year I also sent a pair of Bucs tickets their way. You can decide to donate as late as thursday which is great if you still want to try and sell first. They also take parking passes which is helpful during preseason.
