Just to reiterate that this is not some whacko...Sheriff Joe was going to head Rick Perry's campaign in Arizona. Sheriff Joe also endorsed Mitt Romeny in '08.

Want to know the most disgusting part of this? One of the things he is under investigation for is not investigating sex crimes if the victims were undocumented aliens. Even if the victims were 2. Even if they had the name of the rapist.

However, he investigated Obama's origin because he said that if people come to him with a crime, he investigates it.

So...he has six months to spend on birther bull**** but no time to spend on sex crimes if the victims are brown.

Arpaio does not investigate rapes where illegal immigrants are the victim. Every Republican candidate wants his endorsement.

What conclusion should I draw?

This is not some podunk sheriff in a county of 3000 people in West Texas. He may have the largest sheriff's office in the country. He is probably the most powerful Republican in the Southwest right now.

Until Gov. Brewer, Arpaio, Rush, Hannity, and Palin are no longer the voice of the GOP then yes Arpaio does reflect the GOP, there are far more who agree with these morons than those GOP who are speaking out against them. They have even finally run off one of the great moderates (Olympia Snowe) because of the fanatical ideological Right hand turn that the party has taken. If you're in the GOP and these loons don't reflect your views then by the opinion of the GOP leadership you're a RINO. They don't want you any more as you're worse than the enemy because you are weakening the ideological purity of the party.

OK, that might have stretched the generalization too far. Something like 40% of Republicans have responded to polls claiming they think Obama might actually have been born elsewhere, so it's not a wholly unreasonable generalization given the population in question. But let's say it does go over the limit.

Arpaio does not investigate many crimes, including child rape, where the victims are assumed to be illegal aliens. Instead he spends time and money investigating Obama's draft card. The Republican presidential candidates know both those facts. All of them actively sought Arpaio's endorsement, presumably concluding that turning a blind eye to the rape of illegal aliens does not trouble their fellow Republicans. How would you characterize this situation?

Ariz. sheriff's Obama investigator selling book



The lead investigator in an Arizona sheriff's investigation into President Obama's birth certificate is selling his report as a book.

Retired detective and volunteer Maricopa County sheriff's posse member Mike Zullo is listed as the co-author of "A Question of Eligibility," an e-book for sale through Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

The book is a copy of the investigation findings presented to the press Thursday.

Zullo's co-author is Jerome Corsi, a well-known political conspiracy writer.

Phoenix television station KTVK reports Corsi denied using Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in the country, as a promotional tool to sell his books and theories. Corsi supplied much of the research for the sheriff's office investigation.

Arpaio said at a news conference Thursday that his volunteer investigator found probable cause that the president's birth certificate is fake. Obama's campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt offered a light-hearted dismissal of Arpaio's probe, tweeting a link to a snippet from the TV series "The X-Files."
