    Default E book readers thread

I've been an avid reader all my life. I go through a book or even two a week. Last year I sold over 1,000 old books to a used book store, just to clean up my home!

I've been very interested in these newish E-Book reader thingy's.

First the Kindle caught my eye, but I've heard of many limitations.

Lately, I've been seriously getting the "Nook" from barnes and Noble.

    http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/

I think it comes out at the end of the month.

Does anyone here have experience in these things? Are there features I should be on the lookout for?

You're not alone there. I personally wonder if technology is going too far sometimes. Now even reading a book is becoming technology based? I thought Twitter was bad enough because it encourages people to feel like they're the center of the universe.

As for the OP, let me know. My wife was talking about wanting one and though I don't agree with it, I'll be interested in your review.

LOL, I sold the majority already, but have been re-accumulating them over the past 6 months again. I'll let you know when I'm ready to purge again!

One enticing factor for the e-book readers is the huge capacity for storage. I think the nook can hold up to 17,000 books. That would be a monster space saver for me in the smaller home we live in now.

I also like the borrow/lend feature in the Nook. It allows you to share a book with another unit for up to 2 weeks. I would use this feature with friends and family.

hmm i'll have the look at it again. I don't like it only has 2gb of memory to start off. Although with the chip you can get 15gb.

Yeah, it's got the memory upgrade capability. I wouldnt even consider it if it hadnt.

Also, I think it used the Android OS, which is nice since Google books is fully compatable with it. I also heard (not sure if it's true) that you can borrow library books on it.

I'm very interested in these as I love reading but hate storing books after I have read them. I end up donating many of my books to the Loudoun County Public Library system.

I am trying to be more conservative and find books I want to read at the library instead of buying them all the time. Before I take the plunge and buy an e-reader, I want one that will allow me to access a library network with plenty of free material.

    Nice bump!!!

I asked Santa for either the Kindle or the Nook. I think both have many free "classic" titles (Moby Dick, War and peace, etc). I also think they both have some form of linkage to a library system, but not really sure how that works.

I was going to get the Kindle for my mother this Christmas, but then I found out you have to pay as much to download a book as it would cost to actually buy the real book. I didn't want to give her a gift that was going to end up costing her alot of money to own.

I hadn't heard of the Nook, gonna check that out now.

I have had my Kindle since February and I love it. It goes everywhere with me and I can't remember now how I got along without it. I love that I can download my next book anywhere, anytime. No more worries about finishing one book and having to get to the store to have another one ready to go. I can't stand to be without a book.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Make sure you look into the "free" books that they offer. I know Nook has it already, but i think Kindle will be adding them soon too.

please give an update of either device if you get one for xmas. I thought the Kindle was silly but after seeing one in person I could definitely see its practicality especially riding the metro everyday.
