State trooper, a DUI expert, charged in crash while DUI

A Pennsylvania State Police corporal who supervises DUI checkpoints on Philadelphia-area highways faces disciplinary action after he allegedly got drunk and crashed his car while off duty in Montgomery County last month.

Cpl. John Quigg, 47, of Wyndmoor, is on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation, said Trooper Danea Durham, a state police spokeswoman.

Quigg was driving his Honda Accord west on Route 422 in Upper Merion just after 9 p.m. on Dec. 17, when he lost control and hit a guard rail, according to a police report.

The damage was minor because he'd been traveling at a low rate of speed, according to the report.
