I thought that when we drafted Fred Davis people were excited for the most part because we could see some dual te sets. Have new looks and potential mismatches for our players.
But it seems to me that every week someone makes a new thread about their trade proposals and things this team should do and the most common one is trading Chris Cooley. It has made me sick to my stomach to think that there is a nice size group of people that want to trade Cooley since Fred Davis was "so amazing" it makes Cooley expendable.
Now look I am not hating on Davis and am not saying that I do not like or don't want him on this team however Cooley has earned as far as I am concerned a life time roster spot. For one he LOVES THIS TEAM! How many players do you see that really and truly loves everything about this team. I mean I listen to him on DC 101 all the time and I can tell you one thing - a lot of you talk about having players with "character" and someone who has a "good image" well look no further than Cooley.
I am actually excited now that Davis has emerged to see what those two can do TOGETHER! I mean this is simple football - you have two tes who can make plays now this opens up more possibilities. Put one in the slot move them around and eventually it will reek havoc. I mean inside the 10 which do you cover? And if MK and DT keep emerging and become the threats we want them to be your talking some good opportunities to give DC's some headaches.
Now I could understand the trading Cooley talks if the man does not perform or has started to decline but the man was injured do not write him off because of that.
Chris Cooley I love and support you and can't wait for you to be healthy and make these that don't want you here eat crow! I AM GLAD YOUR HERE COOLEY!
You want to give up someone who in 6 seasons has
343 Receptions for 3,789 yards and 30 tds (equals to about a td every 11 catches and about 11 yards avg. per catch and yearly that is 57 receptions per year for 631.5 yards per year and 5 tds per year) and someone who went to back to back pro bowls (2007 & 2008) and I think is easily a top 5 TE in the League
and replace him with a 2nd year player that has
48 receptions 509 yards and 6 tds (so let's break that down that's 24 receptions per year for 254.5 yards per year and 3 tds per year - so let's keep that avg and see what his numbers are in his 6th year = 144 receptions for 1527 yards and 18 tds)
The difference between the two avgs is this - 199 receptions for 2262 yards and 12 touchdowns (which would be 72 points not including extra points with extra points it's 84)
So next time your talking trade talks and start typing Chris Coo- start pressing the backspace and rethink that.
