This is the approach I believe we should be taking with offensive linemen. Pick up a bunch from round 3-7, and let them battle it out.

    2754, 11, 10 (31)
    3445, 23, 10 (38)- this looks like a legit year
    3100, 15, 6 (43)
    2676, 13, 12 (40)
    3304, 16, 7 (34)
    3126, 12, 13 (38)

    Heres a fun game: http://www.pro-football-reference.co...l/all-pros.htm
Go to that link. Hit ctrl+f. Type in 199 into the prompt. There should be a "Highlight All option" Click that. What you are seeing now is the probowl berths of the Cowboys in the 1990s. Thats alot of ballots.

These are the numbers of a solid journeyman. And these are the numbers he put up with 2 hall of famers? Clearly there is more to the game than just numbers but I look at things like the general talent level on the team, the turnovers created by the defense, the absolutely pedestrian numbers he put up, the fact that he made probowls despite barely being in the same statistical ballpark as other QBs who made the probowl leads me to believe absolutely another QB could have done the same. Sorry
aikman seems a lot like ben roethlisburger. he has the capability of putting up big numbers but he doesnt always do so. i dont remember much of aikmans playing days, but remember its not always who has the biggest numbers that gets to to the pro bowl. if he was making big 4th quarter plays and had a knack for making plays when it counted and winning games, thats all it takes to get to the probowl.

and also remember, teams that have good records, the QB will get in a lot of the time. kerry collins in 2008 is a prime example of that. but aikman helped win 3 superbowls, thats a pretty massive accomplishment.

No reason to go crazy for QB this year, especially since the best one will be gone by the time we pick. You can only play 1 at a time, picking multiple QB just because its hard to find one would be a serious waste.

We are so weak on the Oline right now that the skins' hand is forced to take a 1st rounder OT, and probably a middle round (2nd or 4th) depth O lineman as well. The Oline was easily the weakest part of the team last year. We cannot succeed without an upgrade on the line, and this year's FA crop was thin due to CBA not getting done so much fewer UFA available.

Shanahan is in this thing for 5 year plan. He has a veteran QB that is decent in JC, a QB with potential in Brennan, and Rex as insurance. Offense should be better this year due to better coordinator (Kyle) and who knows maybe Brennan really steps up during camp and has a great year. Worst case is we get better line play behind Campbell. Either way the skins have to improve a very weak line, so this will be their priority.

In the NFL- you'd better get it done in 2.

Shanahan with his name and resume will most likely get a 3rd no matter what. But 5 year plans don't exist in this league anymore, and haven't for some time.

(or another qb like Tebow or Pike, etc.)

Let's see, you don't know who is going to be better in the pros!! This is absolutely absurd. Throw your thinking to the wind and consider this: we would be absolutely stupid to waste a 1st and 2nd pick on a QB.

We find ourselves in trouble with our OL, but it's okay to waste 2 high picks on which of the 2 QBs will be better.

Your thread in my opinion is laughable and dangerous. We need to protect the QBs we have on hand now, not another Patrick Ramsey getting knock around like he did. Even Vinny would be oppose to your idea of how to solve our QB situation according to you and the others who want a QB.

We don't have a QB problem. We have a protection problem. Jezzie pezzie!

I completely disagree and truly believe our QB situation is a dire as the oline issue. No way playing 2 or 3 rookies on the oline helps you anyway. They can also be a bust just as easy as a QB.

We need QB and oline in the 1st and 2nd. Really doesn't matter which one when unless you can get Bradford then you go get him no matter what the cost.

Pretty much. He had a string of misfortune, miscalculations, and mistakes which caused the Broncos defense to go into decline after the 2004 season. To recap:
    • In 2005 Kelly Herndon joins the Seahawks, Reggie Hayward leaves for Jacksonville, and the entire starting defensive line from the 2004 season is replaced with Trevor Pryce (who missed most of the '04 season to injury) and a cavalcade of awful ex-Browns.
    • Trevor Pryce had a bad year in coming off of his injury in 2005 and signed with the Ravens the following season where he quickly returned to form and posted 13 sacks. He is replaced by Kenard Lang, who played with none other than the Browns in 2005 and would not play again after the 2006 season.
    • The Broncos run into cap trouble in 2007. The injury-riddled Al Wilson is cut and eventually retires in 2008.
    • Darrent Williams is shot and killed before the 2007 season.
    • John Lynch and Ian Gold are cut after the 2007 season, neither plays another down of football.
    • With the sole exception of defensive end Elvis Dumervil, Shanahan is unable to find competent replacements for the (very good) players he has lost and is eventually fired.

I couldn't pass up your post because it smacks common sense in the face.

I have watched all the "You Tube" I could watch on Bradford and Clausen and realized that they both are over-hyped and lacking tangibles that are needed to play the QB position. Bradford is close to being a pound or two in the infirmary, no thanks!

Clausen is really over-hyped. He can't throw all of the NFL passes - he has a noddle arm. He won't participate in ND's Pro Day. Something not right with this guy. If his toe is still bothering him stay away from this guy.

You said, "Offense Linemen from rounds 3 to 7", as you put it, "is the solution to make us a stronger offense by letting these selections battle it out to find the best ones".

You my friend need to rethink your irresponsible statement. You are that in love with noddle arm Clausen to jeopardize our future so you can sit back and gloat about a stupid pick.

QB in this year's draft is not a pick that we can afford.

Let me fix that for you:

Taking a QB in this years draft is something we can't afford NOT to do.

Gotta have two good ones if possible, because QB's go down in the NFL!

Actually, if you follow Malcolm Gladwell's logic, there's no correlation between a quarterbacks grade going into the draft and how well he does, so why even waste a draft pick on a quarterback? Why not just invite multiple undrafted free agents to camp and let them compete?

If there's truly no correlation between the QBs draft grade and his ultimate performance, you should use the top picks on more solid prospects with better predictors of success in the NFL.

    If you buy Gladwell's argument...

-Then maybe you should reply to the post and not my sig.

-Ok thats your opinion of them. Again what does this have to do with the draft strategy of stock-piling picks and using them on o-linemen?

Clausen is really over-hyped. He can't throw all of the NFL passes - he has a noddle arm. He won't participate in ND's Pro Day. Something not right with this guy. If his toe is still bothering him stay away from this guy.
-Another great analysis. You do realize Clausen is touted is one of the QB's who can make all NFL throws? He's been playing in an NFL system, and has shown he can throw all the stick passes. Deep outs/comebacks/curls

You said, "Offense Linemen from rounds 3 to 7", as you put it, "is the solution to make us a stronger offense by letting these selections battle it out to find the best ones".
-Yes I did. Bill Belichick is a great example of it and in my opinion it has worked out quite well for the Patriots.

You my friend need to rethink your irresponsible statement. You are that in love with noddle arm Clausen to jeopardize our future so you can sit back and gloat about a stupid pick.
-Again seems like your just infatuated with bashing the QB's rather than discussing the drafting strategy.

QB in this year's draft is not a pick that we can afford.
-And if Russell Okung is the next Mike Williams? Then what? We still need help along the line, and still need a QB. Why not draft multiple linemen to ensure some will be able to contribute next season? This is a deep draft along the o-line, the same can't be said for the QB.

In conclusion. Get off your high-horse you aren't some end all be all talent evaluator, there is a reason EXPERTS have these QB's going in the first round. There is a reason some EXPERTS (Kiper especially) believe Clausen to be the #1 overall prospect.

We would be the Cleveland Browns. If I remember correctly, there fans got either Anderson or Quinn benched at one point last year. That's laughable.
