I used to be a hardcore EQ player from when it started to right when WoW was in Beta. I was overly obsessed with the game and kind of regret some of the time. However, it was a very awesome game and I remember first starting to play it and how wonderous and new it was. I played Meridian 59 before that. A game that had maybe 100-200 people on at a time. Was alot of fun, but so small in comparison to the new games.
That being said, one of the things that turned me off of the game, was some greedy folks that worried about nothing but gear. Also, the leveling became excrutiatingly painful. Especially, if you have to do it solo. I tried to start up once I became a little burnt on WoW after some friends talked me into coming back (hell a lot from my guild still play EQ). It was impossible to level alone. Spend an hour and you might see the experience bar move a fraction of a millimeter.
That is what I personally like about WoW. You can be a casual player, if you want to be. That is all I want nowadays. I was hardcore in the beginning, but I have so many other things going on. However, I can get on and have fun in a few hours of play with some good friends. I also am not worried about the end game raiding. I am long past those days. EQ killed me on that I believe.
Either way, I still like the game a ton, and don't see stopping anytime soon.

Getting Laid or Playing WOW?

You act as if the two are mutually exclusive. I got steadysince the around 15 years old and I have always spent a lot of time playing video games, playing sports, and going out with the guys. It's a myth that you have to surrender your personal time to make a woman happy... you just have to look for a woman that doesn't need to control what you do every moment of the day (not an easy accomplishment these days being that most of them appear to think they are life managers)
I haven't played WoW in over a year now, but WoW doesn't have to be more than any other game like Madden or Call of Duty unless you want it to.
If you want to devote multiple hours every day playing WoW, then go ahead. It's just a leisure activity like watching TV or even playing sports.
Definitely a myth that WoW = no life (although for a lot of people it does)
Please stop posting large image macros in here. It is annoying.
Also, I love how people jump all over WOW players for the time they spend playing the game but it is ok to play Madden for 4 hours a day or play Red Dead Redemption until the sun comes up.
WoW had to evolve into a more casual game because of the large user base. They had to cater to the majority of people who by all Blizzard admissions would never see the end game content. Why spend the time and money to develop something so cool and only a small percentage would see it?
Besides I know groups of 80's who still wipe on the first boss of AQ40.

Where's the beef?
I'm on a break from wow until Cataclysm comes out. My wife and I play together and we both just recently decided to stop. I can't raid because of my work schedule and we have every piece of non-arena pvp gear, and everything out of dungeons we can get. I was at the point where i would log on and do a couple dailys with my main pally and then lvl and alt. Decided to put it away until the expansion and play Guild Wars for the time being since it has no monthly fee and I never completed any of the campaigns.

Pit of Saron and Forge of Souls are nothing compared to Halls of Reflection. I've never seen so much fail in any instance group when I've joined. I've only successfully gone through it two times. The other 4 / 5 times were failures. The worst is the end when we don't have enough DPS and the Lich King catches up with us (that is, if the group gets past the first stage of mobs in the beginning of the instance)
HoR on heroic is epic fail if the proper rotation is not followed. You have to take down mages, priests, mercenaries then anything else. You will get effed up if you ignore any of those three for a swordsman or hunter.
Where's the beef?
Not going to bash anyone for playing a game but I personally know one person, my brother in-law, who flunked out of college because of WOW. To this day he's 21 years old and lives with mommy and daddy. He rushes home from work, grabs a plate of food and runs upstairs for the rest of the night. It's quite disturbing actually.
Besides him, as a First Sgt in the Air Force I know of at least three marriages and two careers ruined because of WOW. I actually had one guy say to me "I don't know what the big deal was, it was MY birthday, so what if I wanted to play video games for 14 hours". That was his answer when I asked why his wife left him.
Sorry, I just don't get it. There is absolutely no video game I have ever played in my entire life that can occupy that much of my time. Besides, with "life" going on where do you find the time?
