You're absolutley right. I have the same problem with tobacco or anything else that consumes a persons life in a negative way.

I was talking to my mom the other day and she was giving me the old sob story about how my sister was broke because her husband couldn't work due to a surgery he had recently. Well I wonder if the money spent on the 5 cartons of cigaretts that household smokes a week would be better spent on groceries or bills.

I just can't see it, I don't have an addictive personality so it's hard for me to relate. Funny thing is there are plenty of WOW'ers in this thread who have admitted it consumes too much of their time. Guess it's just an anomoly.

It's difficult to get addicted in my opinion when the game doesn't give you anything to get addicted to after you reach 80. Sure, you can run a few instances for badges, but then what? You'll end up like me, doing dailies every day and Chillmaw / Commander. Not really new or interesting tasks.

However there are people out there that are addicted and seem to have fun doing 80's stuff such as raids. Those things take up 4 or 5 hours being stuck in one place. That's crazy...I couldn't do something like that. I already get impatient when I'm stuck an hour or longer in an instance

Me, my friends and some guild mates are running classic dungeons and raids to ensure we have our achievements for old world content before Cataclysm comes out because they have not said what exactly is changing.

I got my Rivendare Deathchargers mount the other night after never seeing it for 4.5 years.

We are working our way through all the classic dungeons and are scheduling classic raids now. We should be able to 5 man everything but AQ40 and BWL.
    Where's the beef?

well, my guild raids about 2 nights a week, for 2.5 hours on tuesdays and sometimes thursdays or sundays (9:30 to midnight). that's no more of a commitment than watching 2 movies a week, or playing one round of golf.

we clear icc25 up to the lich king but have only killed him in 10-man mode.

you can 5-man aq40! (with a very good group)

edit: actually you probably can't five man the Twins ... everything else you can though.

Just from what I have been hearing and reading the first boss can be a pain and all the way up to the Twins and C'thun can be pwned easily. Twins you need more.

But it does not hurt anything on having extra people. It can go by faster plus if we take some lowbies around 60, like new DKS, we can get them some nice gear plus achevements. Only thing that really gets hurt is chances for the mounts. I wish Blizz would make it so you could ride them outside of AQ.

The more the merrier, and faster, though!

absolutely. i've done aq40 a few times at 80. the first boss you just need a couple top notch DPSers. everything else is completely easy, except for the twins, where people actually have to listen to a 5-minute explanation and do what they're told, which is really really hard to accomplish after they've all just been sprinting through stuff mindlessly for 45 minutes.

final boss is nothing to worry about, although you can wipe if you accidentally start the fight and then try to reset or run away.

It frustrates me that despite having cleared this content before TBC came out we have to do it again. Yea it is fun but getting people to coordinate on a time for it is a pain.

I don't do much at lvl 80. I'm not a raider or anything. I get kind of bored at 80. I usually give heirlooms to alts and play with them. Sometimes I hop on my 80 pally and solo old raid bosses or BC heroics and such.

I want to do them to get the achievements done before you potentially cannot.

I remember reading a story in a magazine a few years ago about a guy who got really into one of these games. he'd become friends with a couple of guys and they'd gone around in a group for several months collecting stuff. Then his friends decided to turn on him, stole his stuff, and ruined his character somehow.

The guy ended up committing suicide. Don't know if it was this game or everquest or whatever, but that's some scary stuff. i hope no one here is at that point.

Yes this happens but it is not as common as some would make you think.

I have had my account hacked before and just started a new one. Once I got the new one back I merged the accounts and transferred characters as I wanted.

People who kill themselves over a video game already have issues that are not related to the video game.

well, the makers of WoW are phenomenally accomodating about restoring all your equipment if you are scammed or hacked. i remember back in Ultima Online, our guild's 2 story house was robbed by exploiting a bug in the code and the GM just shrugged and said "eh, it's part of the game. sorry." gotta give Blizzard credit for not being like that.

Some people have said they are getting more stingy about it with an apparent large number of restores being requested due to hacked accounts.

I was reading they are now offering an instant restore with a set of like item level 187 gear and a bag of gems. I have not confirmed this.

I had a bad experience with Blizzard regarding my account. It was hacked and stolen from me in the beginning of 2008. I sent repeated emails and made phone calls explaning that the account was hacked and I was not the one doing the botting. Each time I was told sorry and sent on my way. Fast forward to June of 2009 and I get an email that is asking me to confirm my email address change. I forwarded the email immediately to customer service letting them know my story from the beginning.

I get an email back in 2 days or so saying my account has been restored, my gear restored and a month of free game time.

Upon logging in I notice my account now had Wrath of the Lich King expansion installed, was transferred to a new realm and all my alts were deleted. My only guess as to what happened was a hacker got my account, botted and got banned. The ban was lifted at some point then they sold the account. The user then installed WOTLK and leveled the toon to 78 and wanted to change the email address at which point it got flagged.

I got my account back, attached an authenticator and haven't looked back.
