I went ahead and did a 5 mile race this morning, a majority of it was a trail run so at least it was in the shade. Anyway, for the first time, I was unable to finish a race without walking, I had to take a few breaks sometime after the 3 mile mark. Anyway, this was definitely a poorly organized race in my opinion. No mile markers to let you know where you were at and, considering the weather, I thought only having one water station on the course was a terrible choice. And even better, putting it at the four mile mark.

    Nice charity idea, poor execution.

I had to do the Cooper Test (12 minute run) as part of an officiating camp. It was done around the playing field and so we had all the tight corners. Even at 7.30am it was in the 80s.

yeah, i'm trying to stay on a schedule. my wifes grandma spent a week in the hospital and really needed some painting done on some renovations they were doing before she went. so i spent thursday night in romney. i took all my gear, hr monitor, ipod, shorts, shirt....only to forget my shoes. i wasn't running in my old work sneaks..

i didn't run thursday (wednesday ) so this was my first 2 day break since may. i only had 13 miles this week, really wanted to get my scheduled 10 in, so i just pushed. not sure how smart it was. it didn't kill me, so maybe it made me stronger????

So I am not a huge runner but I like to do shorter distances but I am not sure how good my times are and if I am actually any good lol. I run a 5 k in 22 minutes and do 4 miles in 29 minutes. Are these times like average? Any tips on getting faster? I am not really interested in running distances longer than 5 miles since I like to be in good shape for sports I play which are all short burst sports and not long endurance.

I run about a mile per day, but what makes it interesting is that I run "boxer" style in full sweatpants and sweatshirt, and it's 114 degrees out.

The reason I do this is because I only have about 30 minutes to workout on my current schedule and I get more out of a mile run this way. Most people think I'm nuts but I'm used to that and I get a lot from the workout.

those are pretty good times for someone who doesn't run a whole lot. there are a lot of training regimens you can look up that will help you improve your time for whatever distance you like.

    anyone use the garmin 305?

i've been using the nike plus app on my ipod. the gps is ok, but it definitely doesn't match distances w/ my car odometer or mapmyrun / google maps. also, it sucks to use my hr monitor and ipod when i know i can use a garmin for both.

if you have a garmin and would like to sell it, let me know. i'll trade you a kinect.

Just in case you haven't done so, did you know you can calibrate the Nike + on a track so you can make the distances more accurate? It worked great for me. I know you want the Garmin, but in the mean time if you want more accurate distances you can get them if you haven't tried that.
