It's funny how I started this thread and I have literally run 1 mile (on a treadmill) in close to a year. Sure I run while playing soccer but not really the same thing.

Running on a treadmill is not for everyone. In fact many runners go out in snow and ice over the boredom of indoor treadmill running. Do you regularly run on one at the gym and see this as something you will do consistently enough to make it worth spending at least $1500 or more?
Look on Craiglslist for Landice and you can see what a high quality one costs. If you are on the bigger side, you will beat the hell out of a cheap treadmill if you run hard on it. Get one with a 4 HP motor or similar.
I was running on a treadmill back in 2011. I started running outside when my gym membership was up. I've been doing that for about a year now, but its hit or miss - on a nice day like the fall weather I can normally run a good 5-7 miles and feel great. But in the winter I was too cold and couldn't run too much and the spring and summers were too hot. So I was saying that I'd like to get back to treadmill running twice a week during these seasons. Knowing myself and my exercise regime, I doubt I would do it EVERY week, but running and bike riding are the only two exercises that I actually enjoy, and a treadmill run with a TV or some good music should be a nice thing to do.
Corcaigh put a price out there of $1500 which is way more than I was looking to spend. I was thinking I could get something for about $500 and make due. I'm 185 (don't know if that's big or small), but I do worry about how long a treadmill will last. The alternative is to just join a local gym again and run on those treadmills. But then I have to balance waiting in lines vs being able to socialize while / after running.

New milestone, I did my first stroller 5K this weekend and came in first place in the stroller division. Let's not ask how many people were in the stroller division. Anyway, my kid got a medal from the organizers for doing such a good job of riding..she beat me by a foot, technically.
I'm supposed to run a 10 mile race in two weeks and that's going to suck. I haven't trained much at all...had planned to run a few 10K's in the neighborhood over the next two weeks just to get my legs under me, but my house has become Outbreak central, everyone has variations of a cold, mine happens to be the phlegm in the lungs, aching bone variety. Translation, I'm screwed. I'll still run it, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to walk some of it, and I have no PR visions in my head.
You might get something on Craigslist that's worthwhile, but $500 would be the low end for a used quality treadmill. And you'd need a truck and some buddies to pick it up. Certainly nothing at retail for $500 would allow a reasonably sized adult male to run on it hard and last.
Yeah, at my old gym, I'd do a 5k-10k and then half hour or so on a treadmill. I also tried the elliptical, but I didn't get the hype about it. It was pretty boring.

Yeah, I'm probably going to just join a gym again...at least as a first option. If I do buy a treadmill, I'll probably just wait on it and buy something quality than just rushing and getting something cheap that'll break. For the time being (especially in the fall), I can run outside in my neighborhood. One thing about that though is that there are a lot of hills and I'm still getting used to running hills, but it wasn't that bad last weekend. I'll try to run again after work tomorrow. I wanted to run today, but I was in jeans and the wrong sneakers. I still could have done a mile or so, but I didn't. I'm pretty mad at myself for that.

If you're stuck in jeans and the wrong shoes, just go for a walk. It takes longer but it's easier on your legs (especially with the wrong shoes) and it still counts. Plus it doesn't require special clothes or anything.

Anyone doing Marine Corp Marathon? I wanted to try it, but didn't register in time. It filled up in 3 hours!
a running thread, eh? been a while since I've surfaced on the board... just lurking lately. I'm currently in Afghanistan, logging about 20-25 miles a week, all the treadmill. I quickly run out of playlists![]()
Got in five easy miles in light rain yesterday evening on the W&OD Trail after Sandy passed through. It was nice to get out having been inside for more than 48 hours.
Just came across another variant of the Hitler Downfall clip - this time Adolf is a runner getting his MRI results.

Did a 5K on Sunday before the rains started. Got a new PR - 22:15. Very excited about that. Running is so much nicer in these cooler fall temps.
