The past four years I've averaged about 1000 miles a year. I just figured out that is the equivalent of the flight miles from Miami to Seattle and about 1/3 of the way back. Pretty crazy.

@Chris_DFB
Just created my training calendar to start prepping for a 2nd half marathon in May! This time boysetsfire is going to run with me
Going to be taking things much slower this time around, combining Hal Higdon's 5K and beginner half-marathon plans. For my first race I used an 8 week plan and was absolutely exhausted after everything was said and done (though I was very happy with my race), and as a result haven't run very much at all since then.
Fingers crossed mother nature cooperates this winter.
Did all the runners go away for winter? A few weeks back I started having some serious pain in my knee while running to the point where I had to stop running in the middle of a 10k race, took 2 weeks off tried running again and still have the pain. Visited my normal doctor who's not a specialist or anything but he thinks I aggravated a bursa in my knee. Seriously bummed because I have no idea how long I'll be down for and I had big running plans for this year(already signed up for my 1st marathon in October), and now my mind is even messing with me, last night I had a dream I was running some trails out in the woods, it was amazing, until I woke up.
You might want to see if your regular doctor can refer you to a sports medicine guy (or gal).
Also, have you tried running with a knee brace? That might help if you're just dealing with pain and not an injury ...
But I'd have a specialist take a look first.
Anyway, I haven't gone away for the winter. Just hiding in my garage with my treadmill.I'm currently training for the Rock n. Roll Half Marathon in March. Got an eleven miler out of the way on Friday. Today is five. So far so good.

I have to go back this week for blood tests so I'm going to ask about a specialist then.
I did just order a knee brace and I'll be trying that when it arrives.
The thing that kind of scares me is like you said it's pain and not an injury, it's not like I was running and tweaked something. I just started running one day and it hurt. And it only hurts when I get about half a mile into a run just walking around everyday it feels fine.
Good luck with the half, I've seen the ads for that run in the Runners World magazine and it sounds great.
That's pretty typical of a running injury. It might also be your shoes then.
I can always tell when it's time to replace my shoes because my left ankle will start to ache about two miles into my runs. It's like my own personal spider sense.
How many miles do you have on your current pair?
Thanks. I haven't run a race that long in a couple years so it should be interesting.Good luck with the half, I've seen the ads for that run in the Runners World magazine and it sounds great.![]()

One of the things I'm actually going to do this week is try running in my old shoes because the ones I have now are relatively new, less than 40 miles on them. I doubt it will change anything because I had probably 25-30 miles on them before the pain started the last of which was a 9.5 mile run, which is the farthest I've ever done, where I felt pretty good afterwards. I just want to try it though because not running is driving me crazy.
Still here, and still running. Hope your knee gets better!
I did the Goofy Challenge (a half marathon on Sat. and a full marathon on Sun.) in January at Disney World, and it was great fun. I'm probably doing the Richmond marathon again in Nov., but I'm not sure what other races I'm doing before that. I'll probably try to work on my 5K time, and see what else comes along that looks interesting.
Went 4 miles last night en route to my 2nd half-marathon. Anyone know of any good half-marathons in the area in late May/early June?
The Historic Half in Fredericksburg was fun and well-organized, but "good"? Hard to say - if hilly is good, then it was good! The course really isn't that bad, but the hills all start at mile 10, so be prepared! There's also a half in Alexandria over Memorial Day weekend. Check runwashington.com for a full local schedule.
I have the Rock n Roll Half in less than a month. I haven't been training at all. This should be fun...
