Doug Dutch: Ravens' practice tougher than Redskins'


Former Redskins cornerback Doug Dutch, traded to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, quickly noticed a difference in how hard the teams practice.
"Practice here is a lot more hard," Dutch recently told the Baltimore Sun. "It's a lot bigger and tougher grind."


- I guess it is tougher when you actually get reps in practice and aren't the 10th DB on the depth chart.

Definitely sounds like a bit of a ra-tard from that one quotation.

Anyway, practices here are "less hard" by design. Shanahan doesn't want to kill the guys before the season starts. He's always run practice this way, and he's won 2 more Super Bowls than John Harbaugh. I'm not too worried.

Also, practice is probably pretty easy when you don't get reps.

The more positive players are about camp, usually the softer camp has been. According to reports I've read they aren't in full pads, aren't hitting, and getting a few chances to go home early.

Then again how to run camp is far from a proven science.

Shanahan addressed the "full pads" issue: the players wear shorts because most of them don't wear thigh/hip/knee pads even on game day, but are otherwise in full gear.

I think the relatively short injury list thus far is a welcome result, and if lighter practices are needed to ensure that, then so be it. Denver won a couple Super Bowls with this guy running camp, so it can't be all bad.
