I don't think the wizards situation is hopeless if Grunfeld is fired. I don't think the team is nearly as bad as we're seeing, just like Rashard Lewis was not nearly as bad as he looked while here. Grunfeld created the environment that prompted guns in the locker room and now allows absolute half assed disinterest. His drafting and decision making is absolute ****.
Once he's gone this team could improve quickly. Just as they would have had they signed OJ Mayo, an absolute steal in FA, or traded for Harden... Instead we got Okafor and Ariza. Make no mistake about it, those two clowns eating up salary will keep us trapped until we can get rid of them. The point is the opportunities to improve have been there.
After that they need an ******* coach that runs a rigid offense. You run it or you sit your ass down. A GM willing to allow that attitude is a must. This team needs structure badly because they lack play makers. Strong x and o's are a must.
Get that and this team is good next year. Fail to do that and we get more of this ****.
I think the Wiz games are funnier than any shows that are playing on Comedy Central right now. Pargo chucking up that 3 with like a minute left was just too fitting. The lineups Randy keeps running out there continue to frustrate the hell out of me.
I predicted we'd be either 1-6 or 2-5 by this point...There really needs to be a lineup change. Beal isn't ready for the NBA's best perimeter defenders and he gets absolutely no respect on his drives. We can beat teams...we just ****ing lose our minds in the last half of every fourth quarter.
The thing thats going to be even more crippling...is that if Wall does come back...and does lead us to some positive growth...I don't think we'll be in a good enough draft position to cash in. Vesely needs to be sent to the D-league and emeka just needs to be benched. Its obvious we get our best looks when we run the offense through seraphin. Randy needs to stop playing these political games for the sake of Ernie and start the best players. Booker also needs to learn how to switch on pick and roll D. He's been atrocious in almost every phase of the game this year.
Beal needs to be ready. All of the players drafted around him are playing and this franchise needs him to step his game the **** up. With the exception of TRob all of the players in the top 6 of the draft are playing well. We need to get a coach and a GM that can turn him into a decent SG desperately. Though I still think drafting a player at three made no damn sense and set the franchise back when it should be moving forward.
Maybe.
I think Wittman is already quick to hook guys. Look at our 15 man rotations...
What we need is a real coach who can instill a real NBA rotation and heirarchy and structure to the team.
We need a coach who won't be over-playing roster filler, bad journeymen vets over the young talent we need to be developing and instilling confidence and familiarity in.
You can not develop in the NBA on the bench. And LKB was right, you can not develop 8 guys at once. It just doesn't work.
We need to probably cut bait on most of our young guys, pick a few core ones to stick with, and then move forward with their development being priority #1. We are not a good enough organization to pull an OKC and have 8 young guys all figure out how to play together.
Trouble is, we have no FA drawing power. We're a laughing stock. The rest of the league peers into our situation every now and then and either laughs, or goes," good god that's a mess... put the lid back on that."
Also, I think OJ Mayo was a trade, not a FA.
It may suck to hear it, but it's the truth that we have no FA drawing power. This is a clown show that vets who expect to play good BBall and want to win at all would never, ever come here. And those are the type of Vets we need to surround our developing players with. I'm talking about mid to low tier decent FAs. Would we ever be able to sign Chris Kaman or Elton Brand? Would Ramon Sessions? Would Andrei Kirilenko or Brandon Roy? Not for a second. Why would they?
So we can't even fill out our roster with desirable role players to fill in the cracks and help our young guy develop. Our attempts to force decent vets here through trades badly slanted against us have been abject failures. Ariza and Okafor were pretty crap. Nene has barely played.
We can't make open shots consistently.
We got bottom of the barrel FAs and young guys with no confidence and no scoring instincts, no real understanding of offense.
And I seriously don't know if this draft class can even help us, even if we got the #1 overall pick. The best guy in the class probably won't even play BBall this year and the other guys are defensive types and huge long term projects.
I feel the John Wall era falling apart. I honestly don't know if it can realistically be saved. Nothing has broken our way and we haven't helped ourselves at all by leaving incompetent people at GM and HC.

I think Beal will be alright. I'm not worried about his development being off track yet. Rookies usually suck at shooting. He's just got no feel yet. He'll get better at that in time. I like the effort on the defensive end he's been putting in. Still getting burned, but still fighting through screens and contesting shots and he's been getting more effective on the ball.
Beal and Wall are the least of our issues IMO.

How would you all specifically fix our mess. We're playing fantasy GM, let's just assume EG and Wittman are fired and are replaced with good people. All of us want that, let's get that out of the way.
Alright, now assume we're getting the first, second, or third overall pick. I think this is likely. We're obviously the overwhelming favorite for the first overall pick right now, and assuming that, we'll pick no worse than third.
What specific roster moves would you try and make to fix our mess?

Agreed. I'm actually not too worried about Beal. His ups/downs were to be expected. In actuality, he's looked better and more aggressive since the first two games of the season. He's 7 games in and 19 years old. He'll be OK. He's suffering from bad PG play from Price/Pargo. Wittman needs to pair Beal with Crawford more often.
Speaking of Crawford, I'm all for hims starting at this point. He's the only guy on the team who can at least create his own shot and FWIW, he's the best ball distributor. It's not saying much, but he absolutely needs to start.
SM - I said it before, but I know Ves is your guy. But he's a lost cause. I really don't think it would be a terrible idea to have him get some run in the D-League.
Has anyone heard that absolutely embarrassing Phil Chenier radio ad?
I have no earthly idea how you fix this. I assume you want to build around Wall and Beal (though I'm not entirely sure even that's a good idea). The only problem is that is really the only trade pieces you have.
Part of me thinks that the move is just to trade Wall, acquire a gazillion assets, burn the thing to the ground, and start all over.
But the rub is - what teams are really desperate for a point guard? There is a glut of point guards in the league right now. Shooting guards are at a premium, but Beal hasn't shown enough yet.
I got nothin'.
I'm almost at the point of moving the team to Seattle.

Away- Dallas, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Green Bay, Minnesota, Atlanta, Denver, Oakland
I guarantee you, GUARAN FREAKIN TEE you that the moment we trade Wall, he becomes an All Pro, probably the best player in the league. I'm talking Steve Nash 06 type with a jumper and all. For that reason alone we need to keep him. If we're going to suck, we're going to suck with Wall and Beal. Otherwise, whatever, but for the next 10 or so years or until one suffers a knee injury we're going to be building around them.

I'm a casual fan at best at this point. I just check in to see how they're doing, watch a game every so often...I used to be a diehard. I'm proud that I'm a diehard Skins fan and Orioles fan and have stuck with those two teams through their awful times, unwavering.
But the Wizards just absolutely killed me. I don't know what happened, but I just can't bring myself to watch them anymore, and it's been that way for years.
This post sums it up really well though, it's an absolutely depressing situation.
The other thing I'd say is to remember the basketball purgatory comments people were making this offseason. Haha. yeah looks like that's not happening. But knowing us, we'll wait til we're 0-41 to go on a 15 game win streak and ind up with the 5th worse record and get the 4th pick in the draft.

Owner says he wants to build through the draft, sticks with a GM that can't draft competently or develop players at all. Sounds like a winning formula.
