Default McClatchy: Dallas Cowboys rookie Dez Bryant gets stuck with $54,896 dinner tab | NFL

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...935_nfl29.html

Dallas Cowboys veterans stuck rookie receiver Dez Bryant with the dinner bill Monday — and it came to almost $55,000.

By McClatchy Newspapers and The Associated Press

IRVING, Texas — How much is it worth to you to not carry a pair of shoulder pads?

Well, for Dallas Cowboys rookie Dez Bryant, it was just under $55,000.

Remember the highly publicized incident in training camp when receiver Bryant refused to carry the pads of veteran Roy Williams in a traditional ritual that is an annual rite of passage on most NFL teams?

Williams promised Bryant would pay one way or another, and specifically pointed to a time when the rookie took the veterans out to dinner. Williams said he would be extra hungry and extra thirsty.

Payback time came Monday night at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse. Bryant was supposed to take a small group of offensive players out to dinner. A few more hungry souls — including defensive players — showed up.

    The final tab was $54,896.

How do you blow $54,896 on dinner!? Even if all 53 players show up that's a grand a piece they can spend! Damn.

That's ridiculous. If you're going to blow $55,000 you should give it to a worthy cause. I don't care, Cowboys or Redskins players, I can't stand this kind of excessive waste. So unappreciative, there are people starving.

This, folks, is just another example of why the Dallas Cowboys won't win a superbowl this season. Jimmy Johnson would never have allowed this kind of thing. These players are not going to be prepared to play this weekend:

    Bye Week 31, Cowboys 0

I dunno -- but I would sure love to try! I heard on the Junkies this morning the wine list is 90 pages, including bottles of wine that are $9000.

I suspect this was more about Dez giving grief over the practice pads thing more then anything. I sure that the Vets don't want the younger guys to get the idea that it's OK to refuse the traditional indoctrinations that go along with being a rookie in the NFL. How to you prevent players from acting that way? You hit them in the pocket book. This sounds like player's policing other player's conduct to me.

You ever hear of the "White House"?
"The Nation which indulges towards another an habitual hatred or an habitual fondness is in some degree a slave.
It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest." ~George Washington, Farewell Address

Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto. -Thomas Jefferson

    4. Michael Irvin and the "White House" Cowboys
Irvin celebrated his 30th birthday with former Cowboy Alfredo Roberts. According to Texas Monthly, "Party favors included 10.3 grams of cocaine and more than an ounce of marijuana, assorted drug paraphernalia and sex toys." He was also a regular at the "White House," a private pleasure palace near the team's training facility, where he and many teammates enjoyed their R&R, which apparently included just about any wanton activity you could imagine.

The Boys got plenty of heat for their bacchanalian ways. William Bennett, author of "The Book of Virtues," condemned Irvine and Co. for "hurting this country's morale." Lineman Nate Newton demurred. "We've got a little place over here where we're running some whores in and out, trying to be responsible, and we're criticized for that, too."

    Great analogy!
